I've only heard good things about them and they are also surprisingly cheap, some say there are distracting reflections in the lenses, magnification etc. just wondering if they actually protect your eyes

If you are the average user then installing Flux will take care of any blue light related eye strain issues you will run into. However for certain people gunnars will be a better option. Mainly people who move from screen to screen a lot or who need them for something other than a computer screen like console gamers.

As far as do the actually help your eyes yeah the science makes sense and every review I've seen of them agrees they do help.

Basically this. That or you can do what WR said and lower the Bluelight level. The big thing that Gunnars does have going for it though is if you already have prescription glasses and you know what you need prescribed, you can get Gunnar glasses with the magnification in your prescription as well.
