saamMy mom wants a new computer because our old one is from like 2005. Budget is $550.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/saam/saved/YdGkLk

I didn't include a power supply because I was wondering if it's possible to reuse this from our old computer.

Everything is fine, except;

You dont need 4gb RAM
An SSD would make a massive difference

Oh, I picked up that $20 SSD from Dell, forgot to mention it.

Also I'm guessing you meant I don't need 8gb and should go with 4?

Looking to upgrade to Kaby Lake (probably i5-7600K), so I'm also going to need a new motherboard, RAM and cpu cooler (Motherboard nor cooler support LGA1151 and RAM is DDR3).
Probably gonna need windows 10 as well since Kaby Lake doesn't support windows 7.

Not quite sure about budget, probably around 600€

EDIT: Actually mindfactory.de will work fine I think? Low shipping costs. I think I understood it also had the ASUS cashback deal?

[ here is where we left off http://www.teamfortress.tv/post/683548/pc-build-thread ]

so i'm pretty certain i don't need to get a new pc, and just upgrade the one i have.

what i have now:
i7 4790k
r9 280x
16 gbs of ram
ASRock B85M Pro4
CASE - Silverstone SST-PS07

want i want:
replace motherboard (so I can have 64 gbs of RAM, which I've already bought) & replace gpu with a newer one, hopefully a 1080, or something like that. thanks for the advice :D

ECS Z97M-PK is a relatively cheap z97 matx board. Your options are fairly limited as most places don't have high end lga 1150 matx mobos in stock anymore. Anything high end will cost you almost $200 in MATX. The LGA 1150 platform supports a maximum of 32gb ram so your screwed on that.

As for GPU i think you are better off waiting for Vega unless you don't care about your money. That r9 280x is still good enough for 1080p high settings in everything.

ETA for Kaby Lake is 11.01.2017 in most shops. Soon enough?

#2011
Please get a PSU that can at least manage 80+ Bronze.

The 120$ for Microsoft Office hurt a lot. Is that really necessary?

#2014
Talked to him and he's got a noctua cooler which means he can get a new mounting kit for free.
Yes, minfactory ships to Finland for 20€.
Which ASUS cashback?

#2015
I hope you bought 4x16GB.
Another B85M Pro4? If it worked before, apart from you getting a used/slightly broken one with only 2 working RAM slots in exchange for the DOA one, then why change anything? A new one should work properly.

What do you mean by that? I bought the RAM on sale as 4x8. at worst i'll have one that's extra or something but it's not that big of a deal. also that's a good idea, i'll just grab another then. there shouldn't be any issues with power supply / motherboard with the GPU upgrade i'm getting right? iirc r9 280x uses basically the same power requirements as the new GPUs so i'll be fine?

I hate to break this to you, but 4x8GB equals 32GB.
It's always going to be 32GB, regardless of which mobo you put it in.

oh right, nvm i have some autism. thanks for pointing that out to me. yeah i just have 4x8 which is 32 gb. zzzzzzzzzzzz sorry.

edit: actually idk if technology has caught up yet, but is it possible to get an matx board that also had the LED display? when i used to have a larger PC i thought it was awesome when motherboards came with a display that let you know what was going wrong rather than blind debugging.

double edit: should / could i grab a ASRock Z97M Pro4 Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard so I could overclock the CPU a bit?

Hi everybody,
I'm aproaching to build a new computer; i will use it for playing games like tf2, overwatch and others that will be on the market in the future; i will use it for school too (i'm an engineer) for a program called star ccm+ (computational fluid dynamic) which requires tons of ram (the more the best but at least 16gb for now ) and a very good cpu (cause it need to solve millions of equations). The budget I have is more or less 1100 euros. I have done some research and planned something but i'm not sure about NOTHING cause i'm a big noob in computer building, so i'll need ur help and advices so i can build a good pc and not a creepy one.
These are my questions:
1) do i need an overclokable system?
2) do i need a 500 gb ssd or a 250 is enough?
3) these are the pieces i though to buy can you tell if they are good and they work well together or u can suggest me something better in that budget?
4)is the same buying a 16giga ram or two 8 giga ( in case i want to go up to 64 in future)?
5) is 6 ms time response too much for playing (for the monitor) or "is not the best but still ok" ???

Thank you for your help and have a good evening
this is the list and the range of the prices i wanted to spend:
gpu: http://www.taocomputer.eu/shop2007/scheda.asp?id=34934

I'm saving up for a gtx 1070 so I have to use my old 750ti for now. The only things I'm iffy about is my ram and SSD. I'm not sure if it's possible, but can I use my HDD from my old build on this build without formatting it? It has retail windows 7 (upgraded to 10). Budget is $950-1000 max for now.

edit: found out there is an asus prime z270-a. should i get that ($20 extra) or stick with z170-a

Glad we got that sorted out.

Diagnostic LEDs are less a matter of form factor, more a matter of price.

Yes, if you want to overclock a Z97M Pro4 would be good.

#2023
Yes, I understand, but what about an Office Suite that doesn't cost 120$? Spending more than a third of your budget on software seems slightly excessive when there's free alternatives for both.

#2024
Overclocking isn't happening on that budget anyway.

#2025
1. If you have to ask that, then you probably don't need it. I wouldn't recommend it for a first time builder if you don't need it and it's not really worth it right now anyway.
2. If you have to ask that, then you probably don't need it. I mean if you can't imagine how you'd fill 250GB with programs (data = pictures, videos etc don't need to be on an SSD) then 500GB are definitely not necessary.
3. No overclocking -> no K CPU and no Z mobo necessary, saves some money. Assuming you'll use windows 10 you should get an i7-7700 (just now released). A better GPU would be nice.
4. 32GB would be the next logical upgrade, not 64GB.
1x16GB = single channel = half the bandwidth = not good if you need bandwidth.
2x8GB = 2/4 slots used = adding 2x16GB gets you 48GB max

How many cores are you allowed to use with STAR-CCM+? It's dictated by the license. I'm not entirely sure how they count Hyperthreading.

When are you goint to build it?
If you are able to use a lot of cores Zen might be interesting, but right now it is expected to be released in March.

turgaidso i'll need ur help and advices so i can build a good pc and not a creepy one.

All my suggestions will make your build look non-threatening.

#2026
The V300 is the SSD antichrist.
250GB isn't much more expensive than 120GB and a lot of SSDs aren't even available in 120GB anymore, so let's go with that.
The Samsung 850 Evo would be the usual recommendation, but the Hynix SL308 is not much slower and quite a bit cheaper right now.

A less expensive mobo should be fine, unless there are some specific high end features you need.
Similar situation with the cooler, I don't think you'll hit a point where a D14 or even something cheaper than that wouldn't be sufficient unless you want to overclock it really high. And then you'll be thermally limited in the same way every Desktop Intel CPU has been since Ivy Bridge. A decent cooler for just 40$ can deal with the 150W easily and even a 100$ cooler might only get you 3°C less. That's not really going to make a difference. Where the big coolers shine is >200W and Kaby Lake can't hit that on safe voltages. If you do delid it then those 10-20°C less are going to make if fairly easy even on just a midrange cooler.
Faster RAM doesn't do all that much, but if you must: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Yb8H99/gskill-memory-f43000c15d16grk
Even an overclocked 1070 draws <200W so let's scale back the PSU a bit.

Glad we got that sorted out.

Diagnostic LEDs are less a matter of form factor, more a matter of price.

Yes, if you want to overclock a Z97M Pro4 would be good.

i tried googling to find motherboards that would fit my use but i didn't really find any. what matx board with a LED would work for me?

I'm not hellbent on finding one, but I couldn't find one after some googling so idk.

edit: asus MAXIMUS VII GENE?

ok i have to eat my words again, but i'd like a recommendation please :D
so if possible it'd be LGA 1150 with overclocking & the debug LED thing, and if that combination isn't possible I'll just grab that z97 I was thinking of.

thank you Setzul u very fast in answering and ur knowledge is very appreciate!
I'm going to build the computer the next week so I cannot wait untill march :(
I think I will not overclock so:
1) difference between 6700 (310) and 7700(370) is 60euro ( is it worth?)
2) tell me a good mobo for my setup
3) for the gpu u suggest to go with this http://www.taocomputer.eu/shop2007/scheda.asp?id=34936 or a 1060 or something else?
4)maybe the barracuda 1TB is better then then WD 1TB?
5) what psu should I buy?
6) u know if i can play decently with a 6 ms monitor? ( i have other 200 euro for the monitor but don't want to buy a gaming one I want something for working and movies like this https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-MX259H-1920x1080-Frameless-Monitor/dp/B00UFCVKI4?th=1)

Are you sure that 550W is enough for i7 7700k and gtx 1070? I feel like 650W would be better since I'm going to overclock it.
For motherboard, what are the differences between Asus z170-a and the ASrock z170 pro4?
I have an HDD with retail windows 7, which I upgraded to windows 10. Can I just switch that out of my old build to my new with no problems?
For ram, I need it low profile just in case for the cooler

1. Should be lower once it's in stock.
2. http://www.taocomputer.eu/shop2007/scheda.asp?id=33597
3. 480 is good.
4. Yes it is. Toshiba P300 with 64MB is somewhere between the WD Blue and Seagate Barracuda, so if it's cheaper you could get that.
5. Not sure, haven't found anything good at a reasonable price in that shop yet, might have to look on amazon.
6. Why wouldn't you? People have played on worse monitors for years because better monitors didn't exist. As long as it's actually 6ms and not just marketing bullshit.

#2031
Do the math or use a PSU calculator.

You won't get the 7700K to 200W either.
http://www.anandtech.com/show/10968/the-intel-core-i7-7700k-91w-review-the-new-stock-performance-champion/11

Z170-A vs Z170 Pro4
The ASUS got:
one more PCIe x16 slot (running at x8)
one more PCI slot
one less SATA Express slot
two more external USB 3.1 ports (one type C, one type A)
two more internal USB 3.1 ports
four less external USB 3.0 ports
two more external USB 2.0 ports

So basically the Z170-A got 4 different types of external USB ports on the back, including USB 2.0 for whatever reason and the Z170 Pro4 got only USB 3.0 and USB 3.1, all type A connectors. Definitely worth 50$, don't you think?

I've posted here before regarding pc parts but I figured I should post here before buying parts. I'm going to be buying these parts pretty soon and I want to double check before I buy them. I tried to squeeze out as much performance and speed possible for this price point. I want to mainly play TF2, CS:GO, and from time to time my high endish games such as GTA. I'm gonna attempt to stream tf2 and lower end games and I'll use this for school work as well.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Andrew44771/saved/pzWt6h

Budget is really tight and going above what it is currently is not an option

Hi, i've done some research but can't find that damn 7700 under 370; and i still have another doubt: the 6700k (330 euro) in not overclocking mode is 4GHz and the 7700 is 3,6 GHz (so to my noob eyes the 6700k seems better) the only difference between those two it's seems to be that the 7700 support up to 2400 ram, instead, the 6700k goes only up to 2133. (so I can take 6700k for 330 --- 6700 for 310 --- 7700 for 370/380 and dunno what fucking do).

In the meanwhile i found this that seems to be a very good deal for the ram:

psu: is this fine? http://www.taocomputer.eu/shop2007/scheda.asp?id=34751

the Barracuda is the same price then WD so i'll take that

I think that this is all, but if u see something that can be done better in my budget just tell me

1. Should be lower once it's in stock.

Intel is just now shipping out the 7700 so it can not be in stock yet. Check again on the 11th.

You are forgetting about Turbo Boost.
1 core turbo is 4.2 for the 6700K and the 7700.
2 core turbo is 4.0 for the 6700K and 4.1 for the 7700.
4 core turbo is 4.0 for the 6700K and the 7700.

So if you don't want to overclock once it's at 330 the 7700 is better.

That RAM doesn't fit. SO-DIMM 260-pin is for laptops, you need DIMM-288 pin.

The PSU is good.

I feel like you're spending too much money on mother board and ram. I think I could use the saved money to at least get a gtx 1060 or rx 480
Why the change in the case? I plan on putting the computer under my desk which I measured has 21 inches of clearance underneath.
