kosif valve were to host a tournament it wouldn't be the tf2 that you want to see. them adopting our abstraction of the game, i.e. class limits, whitelist etc., would be them basically admitting that their game is broken.

Not really broken, it's just that class stacking in itself is very hard to fix (making many of the same class weaker without making the class in itself crippling when alone) without class limits.

FMX1Avvyvalve are obviously opposed to our way of playing the game with class limits, weapon restrictions etc. i have a hard time seeing them pump money into an event where the game is played in a way they don't approve ofThen they should fix the broken unlocks ffs

but they wont/are incapable of doing so

and that's the valve stalemate

jesus christ.

the image was more to highlight tf2 compared to valve's other games (regardless it should at least get proportional support)

i suppose it's even worse because if they do something with tf2 and fail, it wont be nearly as bad as hi-rez failing that game

less than proportional would still be so fucking amazing

valve put up 1.6 mil. we're a bit under 1/10th the size of dota but even like 1/20th of the base prize pool (so 80k) would go such a long way towards a great tournament

trying to get valve to add stickers, esports crates and all that shit just seems unreasonable to me. a simple in game item with proceeds benefiting a LAN seems like enough to get a large prize pool.

Why can't we just do a community update like people have done in the past like EOTL and Alien Invasion? We'll take matters into our own hands. We just need to create crates and some promo items, nothing game-changing. In EOTL some of the money received from the EOTL crates and other purchasable items went straight to the creators and movie producers. Why not do the same but for fundraising lans?

this is a good idea but with the amounts of community updates waiting to be accepted or put into the game or whatever, it would be a bit unfair for valve's annual community update to be a competitive one when their updates have been as well. these would probably either have to be packaged with a valve competitive update (which essentially makes it as difficult as getting compendiums) or getting it to go alongside a community update, which could be a weird clash or drown out the competitive support tokens.

on the topic of community updates, here's a stupid question:
what happened to frontline, and the other community update thingies? does valve choose to put them into the game later?

The way community updates work is that they go public, people contribute to them, or not and only afterwards Valve decides to add them or not to add them. So Frontline and the Mayann Project are both waiting for Valve to say "this is going in, deadline is Xth Y". Also according to some rumours, a community update can net several hundred thousands of dollars in revenue. This of course depends on what you sell and how well it sells (for example back when they started adding more taunts, they were a huge seller, as opposed to some cosmetics, especially if they're locked behind a crate).

But if a community competitive update managed to get in, and the creators pledged to use the revenue towards hosting comp events, we could be set for a couple of years really. However, it would be difficult, as more and more community updates are showing up recently, understandably so, as they make a lot of money. You really need to stand out, but at the same time remain restricted enough not to rely on gameplay-affecting content too much, Valve is quite careful about adding those. And of course, it needs to sell something.

SmytherClass limits is fine, class limit 1 on all but pyro, soldier and scout would vastly improve MM.yttriumclass limits of 3 for offense and 2 for defense/support in casual. 2 and 1, respectively, for matchmaking.rowrowbut it makes so much sense to have limit 2 on offense, 1 on defense/support. And it's not even remotely confusing of a concept.

Is this whole two per offense, one per support & defense class limit a new idea, or has it been thrown around before? I've only seen it mentioned here and it makes a fuck ton of sense.

its been thrown around before as a way valve could logically explain class limits to the casual audience
