Optimizing TF2 for Mac

Usually I play on windows, but over the winter break I have to play on my Macbook Pro (long story). It's frustrating to play on, since I get low fps and mouse lag. I can kinda deal with low fps to an extent, but mouse lag makes it nearly impossible to play.
Intel Core 2 Duo
2.4 GHz
1 processor
2 cores
2 GB RAM
Maxframes config
I've disabled vsync and multicore rendering, along with mouse acceleration in OS X (since there's no raw input on macs), but it's still there. Is there anything else I can try? Is there anything I can do about fps as well?

midnight special 22', shells are pretty cheap.

Honestly you are probly boned. Most Mac drivers are proprietary if they are released. Do you know the graphics on it? Intel vs AMD? If you update whatever is there and get their stuff placed, you should be able to do fine.

Here is an article to determine what is running:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4152

Find out the FX card and go to the vendor website, then update it. You should be golden.

Lower the resolution in your launch options (fullscreen), close all other programs, or you could try that resolution command added a few months back

For some reason, my macbook had a problem with the mouse accel in TF2. I downloaded the Mouse Acceleration Preference Pane from http://zuckschwerdt.org/mac and it allows you to set your acceleration. I don't know why, but at -0.2x accel is really 0 accel for my mouse. As soon as I changed that my mouse stopped jump lagging all over the place. Made a big difference. Also try adding in those launch commands for mice that everyone is always talking about. Those might help.

Also, I tried maxframes and it lagged me worse than normal. Not sure if that's a mac problem or what. I didn't feel like troubleshooting it.

Checked on the drivers, my GeForce 320M seems to be updated as of now.

#3
I'll try lowering the resolution, thanks. Wouldn't that mostly affect fps though? Doesn't seem like it would do anything for mouse lag. Do you know specifically what resolution command you're referring to?

#4
I already tried USB Overdrive which can disable mouse acceleration, but I'll try this one instead. These are my current launch options, what else could I add to it?

-full -w 1280 -h 800 -console -novid -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspdaccel -noforcemspd

As much as I'd like to, I can't atm. Long story.

i play on my macbook pro because it's a beast, but yeah i had to install windows 7 on it, it's a lost cause on osx. just pirate it if youre not at college or something and partition like a 100 gigs to it. its literally the only reason i have windows 7 on my mbp, and its smooth

There is no real way to truly optimize TF2 for Mac because of the limitations of the OS. If you want the best performance, you should install Windows via Boot Camp (or you could even install Linux if you don't want to pirate it, I heard TF2 runs pretty well on it).

I want to do the windows via boot camp thing on my macbook, but partitioning sounds scary to me. About how much space would windows/tf2/few documents need? And is there anything else I would need to know about doing it?

Like dedicating a part of my hard drive space to another operating system. Windows and OS X working on the same computer. Sounds scary. Is it undo-able? Also, keeping tf2 on OS side would be a bad/good idea?

For 7, you need ~40GB (I'd make it 50 to be on the safe side) for the operating system itself and then a bit more for your programs and stuff.

lol well even though it sounds scary to you computers can face this with great courage. all it does is partition a hard drive, logically it is fine. yes it is reversible. its upto you regarding it being a good or bad idea on running tf2 on osx
