My game feels super choppy and im not sure why, my computer is good , i have an amd 8150 8 cores at 3.6 ghz or something, gtx 560 and a sabertooth 990 fx, it might be because i havent cleaned my computer for 6 months, also, i was wondering if its possibly because i have a 60 hz monitor because i always get 300 fps so my ingame fps cant be the problem. I dont use an fps cap so that might be the problem too.

Have you ever used a 120Hz monitor recently? That would cause your eyes to perceive choppiness.

If not that, then clean your computer for sure. And if it's not that, try reinstalling TF2 or Windows.

Edit: You said you can get 300 FPS. Is this consistent? One of the comments in Chris's FPS configs says that capping FPS can cause choppy video. TF2 is, by default, capped at 300 FPS. Try setting fps_max to 0 in console, just in case this is the problem.

my game is fine in mge when its 1v1, its just once i get into more cluttered situations like a 6v6 that i start to see choppiness.

How's your HDD? Could also be bandwidth related. Check for packet loss.

how exactly do i check for packet loss, not really sure how. Also, by how's your HDD i guess you mean the condition of my hard drive, how would i check the condition of my hard drive.

Does your in game fps counter drop when it stutters? If so, you need to lower settings, turn off gibs, use a config etc.

Otherwise idk, its happened to me before and just went away before i found a solution

Go on speedtest.net (i think, or something similar) but that only applies if your on wireless

Computers do funny things when theyre low on hdd space, as they cant store temp files. Check if your hdd0is low on space (my computer)

Shouldn't the fps_max be set at 241? I dunno, recall reading somewhere it should be set 1 higher than twice the monitor rate.

I read somewhere that setting a max fps causes stuttering or something for some people.

icTusShouldn't the fps_max be set at 241? I dunno, recall reading somewhere it should be set 1 higher than twice the monitor rate.

i think that setting it to 121 would stop stuttering

edit- max_fps 121 didnt fix stuttering

I think it needs to be the double of 66 (or quadrupled for 120Hz) plus 1. That's what Chris's configs have. Try 132 and 0, I'm thinking you had fps_max capped at 300 (the default) and never touched it, or it reset.

First off, ignore what people say about capping your fps; most of the time it doesn't make your game run any better and sometimes it runs a lot worse. No FPS cap will fix your stuttering. Caps of 66, 121, 132, 240, 241, 300, etc don't do anything. Unless you're having issues with mouse lag due to fps drops, you should never cap your fps (especially if you have crossfire/sli; it causes really bad microstuttering on my crossfire setup). That being said, I suggest you go into your Nvidia control panel and change the max pre-rendered frames to something besides 3 for TF2. I'd suggest setting it to 0, 1, or 4 frames. Also, you can set your negative LOD bias to clamp, which helps performance on my brother's 9800m GTS 1GB with TF2.

Try a defrag.

Make sure your anti-virus software doesn't interfere with steam or TF2 as well.

With the free version, you have to start it up manually (you should try to install as service) and you have to leave it open. Works on windows 7x64.

Not to hijack the thread but I also have weird choppy game play while having great fps...
