Hi i've had audio technica ath-ad700's for like a million years and now the sound is dying in the left ear so i need a new pair

im gonna use them for gaming obviously but what's more important to me is sound quality while listening to music (i listen to lo-fi mostly if you know what that is) and occasionally electronic music

should i got a new pair marked down to 100$ either on amazon or are there better options out there

i really enjoyed the ath-ad700's, just wanted to make sure there's not better options out there

There are better options if you're willing to spend more than $100 (not sure how it converts to AUD or what's available on amazon AU though). The DT770s are a good option but closed so not as good for music, the DT990s (lower ohm versions) are a similar price on the US amazon and are a better open headphone. The Sennheiser 598s are a similar price but you'd want to look up the "Sennheiser veil"; they have a particular sound signature that you might not like. There are some good AKG options around that price, the K553 and K7XX are good options if they're available on massdrop and you don't mind waiting. Otherwise the K701s (open) and the K550 (closed) might be similarly priced on amazon.

I have both the K550 and the K712 Pro (open) and can confirm they're both excellent in terms of comfort and sound quality though I'd definitely recommend finding an open pair with velour pads like the DT's/K712/K7XX because they make such a difference in terms of how sweaty your ears get. I wouldn't recommend buying the 712 now because the 7XX is essentially (minor QC issues with the first batch IIRC) the same headphone just massdrop exclusive and literally half the price in some cases.

I've also tried the M50s and I didn't like how they were supra-aural (sit on the ears not over them like the ones I listed above). They also felt much more plasticy and cheap than I was expecting though the M50x might be better in that regard.

Music and single player games sounded better to me on my M50s, AD700s give me better directional audio and are comfier to wear for a long time. I'm sure there is a million threads about either of them though so maybe a quick "site: teamfortress.tv Headphones" search on google might help you out.
