I feel like you can meet a lot more people playing games in a community like this because we all have something in common. those people you meet can tell stories, you learn things and meet more people than you would in real life, to a point. most of the time its not "wasting ones time" its more of socializing with others, and people you are close friends with, and most people accomplish a goal while doing that, (playing at a decently high skill level in a video game).
