If someone new to the game sat through the entire LAN and was so unimpressed by the amazing showmanship and skill that our top teams demonstrated that a map with sideshow's face deters them from playing the game or becoming interested in it, then they didn't care much to begin with

The entire purpose of the event was to prove something to esportunited and sponsors at the event, and build from there. They now want to do bi-annual events at DH with much larger booths and sponsorship than this, so success. There are also a few companies more interested as a result, and an org taking it all bigger. This event wasn't really for the viewers, it's to make our way onto a platform where we will have those viewers.

Do you think that hosting ETF2L playoffs this way could be realistic?

The dates for DreamHack summer are a little odd, and it would leave the spring etf2l season with no lan finals. It's something to consider, but unlikely. The main reason is that you would only know a few weeks before the event if you were going or not. The large advantage for planning lans in advance is booking things for cheap.

I now feel a little bad that no one played GPit. Well, at least everyone had fun on Sideshow's nose.

Really proud of what you guys have done for the community.

Hmm, I hope so Sideshow. The way it looks like now, is that geel saved the day yet again by providing the entire(?) prize pool and another sponsor just riding on that. I can imagine this invitational (or TF2 LAN for that matter) being hosted at another LAN and having the same amount of exposure. Even more if you look at travel options if moved to mainland EU. I really hope I'm wrong and your sponsors will step up and put a hefty prize pool in the game or provide suitable accommodations for the teams.

That's such a fantastic news!
Do you think it will substitute Insomnia as the "biggest tf2 lan"? I knew one of the problems with I lan series was the cost to reach the place and board & lodging. Did you find Dreamhack more... affordable or (as I'd think) not?

DreamHack should at least be more affordable for NA and AU participation, just ask any of the ex-iM, mix^, 4G, etc. players how much cheaper it would be to have a major LAN tournament somewhere other than the UK (Consider flights, currency conversions, etc.).

No, the amount of support we get from Multiplay isn't likely to be matched anywhere probably ever.

Same amount of exposure in terms of number of people at the event who saw it? Sure maybe. Amount of exposure in terms of getting people in a position of power interested in the game? No way. LAN exposure doesn't mean exposing the game to regular gamers it means exposing the game to people who can actually make a difference and there are very few LANs at which you can do that on this scale. There's only really the insomnia LANs and Dreamhack.

I'm interested in a 6v6 LAN at the DeutchLAN location as well if someone could get that going (I'd certainly help in any way I can, but my lack of both experience and money makes me less than ideal for organising something like this). I'd love for it to happen though.

If anyone is serious about helping with this, let foungi, stinson or me know. We're able to scale it up to 24 teams. Just need to find the proper management for it.

Is there going to be a 2nd DeutschLAN, or will it remain a one time event?

If they improve the network it'd be awesome for a big community lan.
