I wasn't able to watch this live since my 6's team was scrimming. But it was quite the shock to find out from DJC on the show that I was cut. This was very strange so I messaged Vhalin. He was not aware of me being cut from the team. It may not be my team, but I was pretty much a leader in all aspects of the word. Stabby and Vhalin formed the team, and brought me in for in game leadership etc.

TMP not wanting to play with me stems directly from the fact that he asked if he could stream our scrim vs bonus right before our match with mTs. Stabby/Vhalin/myself all said please don't since we'd be going over things. But since he had more than 10 viewers he was beyond caring about the team and thought more about his channel. We scrimmed granary for bonus, and also gpit for ourselves...after it was over I got a few messages all telling me that TMP had just streamed all the scrims and part of just strategy talk. So I did get mad at him. Then it was over and we focused on the bigger picture.

The accusations that I'm a screamer or yeller in game is pretty weird. The only person I'd really be getting angry with is Polk and that rarely happened. And once with TMP and then we found out he had been off his meds for a week or two....which lead to him getting back on them. But having that aired on a show without asking if it was true is a bit lame and drags my sparkling reputation in the dirt.
----
I've watched every Fully Charged since the first one with Brad and I. They've ranged in entertainment value. First few really mixed up things. Bring in a class, bring in a player from top HL and top 6's. Then it steadily cut out Highlander completely after a few episodes. If the point was to get those 5000 viewers that are new to the game interested, it would be beneficial to talk about the game type that they bring in. 6's is good to play and watch as well, but if they arent fully interested in it yet, then it would be good to keep bringing on some highlander folks.

Actually I think it all stemmed from this

mustardoverlordhein cut

Mustard, what are you stirring up?

Also I have no idea who the person DJC was talking about is. Shanny1123 or whatever, nor have I ever been in a mumble with that person. It'd be cool if they stepped forward to explain a bit.

I enjoy watching guys make out, and I was still a bit put off by DJC's image - regardless of the joke. You probably lost quite a few potential viewers for that reason.

TF2 has a lot of kids whose egos haven't fully developed so they're unduly defensive, generally quite trollable and fighty. I wouldn't pander to them though. They'll grow up.

pointless honestly, its alright and could be interesting for newer players that aren't exactly 'in the know' and if its preseason gossip about whos going to which team etc but all the rosters are set, there really isn't anything being left out there its all common knowledge at this point and doesn't make for an in depth discussion. stuff like that is alright if you wanna just chat with your friends in mumble but it makes for repetitive content on a show like fully charged.

maybe it will get a lot more interesting once the season gets in full swing for invite and some good matches start happening because at the moment it seems like its a tad on hold

beating a dead horse at this point, so if someone gets replaced on a team do you really think it makes for a great discussion? focusing on one area that isn't incredibly important to people tuning in. becomes a bit long winded and boring

My thoughts...

*Begin rant*

So what is the goal of the talkshow Sal? Is it in a talk-show format where you interview people who intend to keep people in the know + grow TF2? If so, you might want to refrain to speculation talk (ie rumors) but talk about facts. That is if you want to show to remain credulous. However, if people want the rumors and gossip, than just continue with speculation. I do have to say, people are intrigued by rumors and gossip. so you probably would get a considerable amount of people who view just for that aspect. But at the same time, it will hurt those who are on the receiving end of the bad news of the speculation. This may end up hurting ties with people in the future, but who knows? Maybe no harm will come.

Obviously, a person/player like Hein means well. But I would be pissed to know my team-mates went behind my back to push me away from my own team (however this does happen... to me in fact). But I think the sting would be worse to find out from a show meant to push the growth of TF2. I believe that was the original intention of the show.

I guess what I am trying to say is, if the goal is to grown tf2 with credible news/announcements... maybe lay off the speculation without having the person/team there to defend the claim.

dfyso if someone gets replaced on a team do you really think it makes for a great discussion?

Whether it's objectively high quality or not, gossip is hugely popular. The show isn't long enough for actual strategy talk or whatever; I think in ten episodes I heard one thing I didn't know (Stabby about sidestab technique).

Fix the damn youtube auto creation thing,.. (not you Sal but whoever is in charge of that stuff) the Youtube videos just straight up cut at 30 minute mark.. it is really bad.

The new structured format helps. I'd say you've lost you way a bit if you are trying to get to Highlander people as the majority of your stuff now is 6's based it seems, but shows change focus some times to meet the demands of the people that are watching, so maybe that is helping, or maybe you aren't meeting your original mission.

Rumours and gossip is all interesting and as mentioned in the other thread helps build characters, you lot are a lot more gentle than Pirate Radio ! :D ...

The Talkshow format is good, it is a bit odd having two presenters for the interview bit as the two personalities can roll over the topic of conversation and the geusts. Maybe do the start round table with you, bear and djc.. then a one on one or one presenter + two guests for the next section, then bring back in the other presenter for some final questions and close. The show tends to meander around a bit and sometimes doesn't pick up interesting threads again because cbear is talking about his cat <3 . :)

I liked the start round table with djc, I'd consider the djc spot to be a bit rotatey, so maybe Lange, djc, +someone else that has actual opinions, JeffXtine? To keep things fresh and interesting each week.

I liked the themed shows, even for classes I've never played, I considered adding to the 45minutes (or whatever) I have as Heavy after the heavy episode. Would like to see those completed (no engy episode :( ). I'd like to see the Map makers show, maybe a discussion with some league admins, Valve Valve Valve, a genuine community episode, a "keeping your team together/starting a team" episode .. that kind of thing.

fraacDid you miss the bit where Hein found out he was cut?

But I wasn't....so it's false information. I'm still on the team. The "source" is not on the team. Facts are good to have. DJC just didnt have a good source.

Maybe now that S8 is over and this drama has been put I can make another appearance and clear the air and talk about the future of HL, how the invite limit changed the league S8, how the metagame has changed over the last few seasons.

I do like the content in Fully Charged, as it provides just enough news ("Official" TF2 news, community metanews, team transactions) to keep me versant with a community I am otherwise unfamiliar with. Sure, it could use some more highlander content, but I am usually familiar with the latest HL quibble, so the need does not apply to me personally.

The format of Fully Charged, however, can use some revamping. I have never been a fan of the "podcast as a stream" system, as convenient as it may seem. I feel obligated to watch the stream in case there are some pre-produced assets to be shown. I would not worry about this if it were just a simple podcast.

So I guess my question is about the scope of the show's format. Is it going to evolve into a full blown show complete with assets and goodies? Or is the current format going to persist?

When I did those LG reviews way back when, I went around my friends list and asked people what they wanted to know from the LG dudes. I did it to get diverse questions and get some community involvement in the interviews.

I think it would be a great idea if you could make a thread a day or two before the broadcast where the cast subject is listed, who your guests are and then people can post their questions there. You can have everyone read over the thread before the broadcast so they can have a better idea of what to talk about and what the community wants.

IE: Fully Charged: Soldier Play - Guests are Tagg and Plat
Then have people post their questions in the thread

Also, can it be a goal to not talk about rumors and gossip with an audience of up to 500 people if there is no one on the cast that has facts?

I'm not a fan of gossip and rumor magazines/websites and I don't like it on fully charged either. Honestly, Fully Charged is starting to sound a lot like a Ryan Seacrest show or the cosmo channel on XM. Djc is the Ryan Seacrest of tf2. I'll give a prefect example from Tviq's stream yesterday.

Around 2:40 is when it starts and it goes on for like 30 mins. Tviq had 80 viewers and you guys chose to talk about this stuff. :< http://www.twitch.tv/tvique/b/345780302

Maybe that's cool with you guys on fully charged but I tune you out for other streams when you go to that topic. I don't enjoy listening to that, but maybe I'm in the minority regarding gossip. I like to hear about when people leave teams and join new one's, but just something you heard on the grapevine isn't fun to listen to or professional really.

People say they dont like gossip/rumors but that seems to be what people watch/talk about. Look at the comments for djc's opinion article about banny/tyrone vs his invite preview and prediction articles.

I've watched almost every fully charged there is, and every week I enjoy tuning in to them for both the personalities of the regular casters, and the people they bring in as guest each week.

There have been some good points brought up in this thread, especially Taggs post, suggesting that a thread be made each week with suggestions for questions people have.

Ahem, AnimeNewsNetwork has a weekly podcast that's been going on for years, and their format has remained relatively the same due to how effective it is.

*outline talking points and give a rough estimate of the amount of time for each subject (maybe adjust with the cams a little, and you can have it over to one side? that way people can tune in for a certain area they want both live/vod)

*post topics on twitter/facebook/reddit to open up for user questions. I know Mocha does a lot for tf.tv on reddit, and I think that utilizing those types of sites is big.

*start with just the regular casters talking about weekly happenings etc, and then bring in the guest

*end the show with the questions you get from the social networking sites.

I don't think that you have to get rid of rumors/gossip, just allot a certain amount of time for it, and don't go over it. In your breakdown for the show, put that as a topic so people can skip it in the vod, or come back after getting a snack if they are watching live.

You guys are doing great, keep up the good work.

Salamancer3 segments would be better so people can pick and choose. I strongly disagree that the show needs to be any longer. We are competing for everyone's time, and the more of it we ask to take, the more likely we lose out to TV or actually playing video games. I could be convinced to change my mind - but by data, not opinion. You'd have to take a sampling of current viewers and current non-viewers and show me whether the likelihood to watch the show would increase or decrease as a function of how long it is.

I mean, I could make a whole survey about it and regress the results. But believe me, doing it right takes a LOT of work.

Still - most of the feedback here is great qualitative analysis and I will be adjusting a lot of the show accordingly.

Having a little bit of a curiosity prod here. I don't follow the show a lot as I don't have a lot of time during the middle of the week (full time work, au/NA timezones etc) but I generally try to catch up on the weekend with the vods.

I digress. Basically what I'm asking is if you actually have these as podcasts? I'm sure if people don't have time to sit and watch a stream for ages, and would instead prefer to go watch said tv or play games (more-so the latter), that if they were interested in the show they would listen to it by any means.

It seems you devalue your show (or value other people's time a lot more?). If anything you should perhaps do a poll regarding these kinds of things, because I personally often listen to podcasts for shows like this that I have missed. As mentioned earlier, people will stick around also for the give away/raffle, so there's no need to worry about "wasting people's precious time".

Hope I'm not beating on a dead horse or anything, but just my opinion. Keep up the good work.
