So i recently got a new monitor which is nice, but when i start tf2 my screen goes black.

When i start tf2 my screen flickers between gray and black a couple times,
then the loading screen shows up: http://gyazo.com/24814389262c44872bca834e286381c5
then my screen flickers again and the screen goes black
i can move my cursor and i can hear that i am clicking the different buttons in the main menu. And the screen goes back to normal when i tab out of tf2 but it goes black again when i click on the tf2 icon on the taskbar

I've read a few discussions about people having the same problem and some people suggested this solution:
- In windows, switch to a low desktop resolution (1280 x 1024)
- Start tf2, this should now get into the menu.
- set tf2 resolution to desired values
- close tf2
- in windows, set desktop resolution back to normal
- start tf2, from now on this should start up in proper resolution and without black screen

but it didnt work because after ive changed my desktop resolution my screen would still go black after i started tf2.

So i figured some of you might have experienced this problem and i thought you might know how to fix it.

The problem doesnt occour when i start tf2 in windowed mode, so I'm wondering if theres any downsides of running tf2 in windowed mode. Altough i would prefer to run tf2 in fullscreen

heres my specs:

edit:just changed my monitor refreshrate to 144hz

Any help is appreciated, thanks have a good day.

sounds weird, have you tried and forcing a proper (better if the native) resolution in tf2 launch options?

nope, and by proper do you mean 1080p?

I think he means a resolution that your monitor actually supports

Set your launch options to the monitor's native resolution and see if that works. Options are -w 1920 and -h 1080

i have the same issue since my old monitor died, bought a 144hz monitor, game on native resolution, but before game starts it goes black screen on both monitors, didn't use to do that before, doesn't really bother me though.
