demo skipping still broken?

certain demos will crash my game if I skip past a certain point (which is unique to every demo)
this has happened since after they updated demo skipping
kind of a hassle to wait a few minutes while the demo plays back at 600%
any fix ?

As some people mentioned in the other threads, setting the slider to 0% apparently fixes the crash most times, but it still takes a lot longer to skip large amount of ticks.

Eric replied to my mails at the time and we had a little convo and last I heard from him they were unable to fix it and "were going to investigate the issue better", that was 2 months ago, I might send a new e-mail just to make sure they didn't forget.

I have noticed this problem most prominently on demos that are on Gullywash.

If you are noticing the demo is crashing at around the same tick every time (ie 45000), try this:

If you replay the demo at 600% up until that point, then before the "crash tick" (ie 44000) you play it normally, the demo will continue to play.

This may just be a crash due to too many explosions/particles on the screen at once - and given the 600% speed, the game just crashes itself. Slowing it down removes that possibility.

It's a bit makeshift, but that's my best suggestion.

What worked for me was spamming "flush" in the console as it fast-forwarded.

Just enter it in the console, hit the "go to" button, and quickly bring up the console and just keep spamming up arrow and enter. (Up arrow to instantly bring up the flush command, enter to....enter it)

ive had a new problem, where if i alt tab while a demo is playing, when i tab back in all other players will be invisible and i will stand still not moving. the killfeed still goes as normal, and when i shoot my model moves and bullets go out, but there is nothing else happening on screen

If you play in full screen mode, try putting -windowed (and -noborder if you prefer) in your launch options, that fixes a lot of alt+tab glitches.

I've had this problem once or twice - so far the best solution is to reload the demo - alt tabbing messes with some memory allocation stuff (storing entities and movement), as far as I know.

Does this happen with all demos, or one specific demo? Does it happen on specific maps?

Also, how long are you alt tabbing for?

I had this issue (the crashes from the original post, not the alt-tabbing) as well. What fixed it for me was setting mat_queue_mode to 1, hopefully that'll fix it for you as well :>
