New gameplay trailer that further describes what to expect. The game's still expected to be released May 19th, but it's been delayed enough for that to just be a soft date. Needless to say, I am stoked.

I always wanted to get into the Witcher series, but was never able to get past the horridly slow beginning of Witcher 1. I heard that Witcher 2 was much improved over 1, though. So maybe I'll give it another shot because 3 looks so good, but I hate playing games out of order.

The beginning of the first game is pretty slow, but it definitely speeds up after about a couple hours of gameplay. Maybe a bit more.

Can't wait for the game. Played the first two games and in the process of reading the translated books.
I'm obsessed with the witcher stories.

The books are ... hard to describe. The setting is sublime, the characters interesting. It's not exactly the pinnacle of writing, but still a rather good read.

I've only read the German books mind, and am still missing the last one.

Edit: Well thats one contentless book review. If you like the games and like to read fantasy stuff, get the books. Both the short story collections and the actual novels are worth the read.

I just finished reading the books. They're pretty great honestly! Fantasy, but written in a very contemporary style. He really likes framing the narrative around flashbacks in conversations and it plays really well, because the characters and dialogue are probably the biggest strengths of the books. It's really easy to try the series too, because the first two books (The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny) are short story compilations. It's these two books that the games have been mostly based on, in terms of style and content. It's really cool to have read them now because I can now see just how crazily on point the games have been in carrying on from the books.

The 5-book series that comes after is really all about Ciri, the white-haired girl in the trailer for this game, but the other characters still feature very heavily. And Ciri's a really awesome character too. Oh and if you like Arthurian legend there's a lot of references to it sprinkled throughout, especially in the last book. The third game looks like its going to draw heavily on the series, as there are a bunch of characters in the trailers from the series that haven't appeared in the games yet. So I'd guess you'd get a lot more out of the game by reading the series.

Just a heads up for anyone interested, the games do not try and necessarily add their own twist to the story that the author of the novels created. The game series will end where the novels do and tries to stay as close as possible to the story of the novels.

I'm not saying if you play the games then you read the books or anything. I encourage you the read them, in fact. You might actually learn more about the story the game portrays if you read the books as well.

Sorry for the bump, but the game releases this Tuesday and this was the most recent video they created.

This, even being CGI, looks incredible.
