So I am flying in to Heathrow friday morning and need to book a train to coventry for the tournament. I found a solid route (tube to euston then train to coventry) for 25 pounds. However when I get to delivery they say I have to use a self service station but when I look online it seems there aren't any self service stations at Heathrow airport. Can someone give me advice on the best way to get to and from?

How much is the ticket without the first leg from Heathrow part on it? So Euston to Coventry. Might be that you have to just buy a separate ticket for the journey into London from the airport, and then pick the tickets up at Euston.

Depends on time. I arrive at 1105am to Heathrow friday but I have no idea how long it'll take me to get off the plane, figure out where I need to go, and get on the right train.

I'm sure the tube ticket from Heathrow to Euston can be bought from the machines at the Heathrow tube station, although you may want to buy an Oyster card instead of a paper ticket if you plan to make more journeys on the underground later on.

That means you can use the ticket machines at Euston for the journey to Coventry, which will be a separate ticket.

So basically I would just book the ticket from Euston to Coventry in advance, since Heathrow to Euston is easily bought on the day.

As above, just prebook a train ticket from Euston to Coventry and pay for the tube ticket on the day

Depending on which terminal youre arriving into will have an impact on bag wait. Just remember, Heathrow to Euston on the tube is 45 minutes to 1 hour at least.

Personally, if i was booking a connecting train, i would be thinking around 3-4 hours after i landed. 1 1/2 hour for bags and non-uk customs, 1 hour for tube + buffer.

On the customs note, hopefully midweek you should fly through.

I'm only bringing a carryon to eliminate bags, so it should just be customs that I need to deal with right?

My other concern is leaving Monday as well. My flight is at 930am but from what I've seen the earliest train leaving coventry is 625 with arrival at Heathrow at 905,definitely not enough time to make it. I guess my options are to go sunday night after the finals and such have taken place or catch a ride with someone heading back that way real early? Any other forms of economical transportation?

http://www.stagecoachbus.com/
http://www.nationalexpress.com - Picks up at Heathrow and will drop you at the arena in Coventry

They usually take a long time though.

National express is showing a 2 hour commute from Heathrow to coventry, can't get it to register directly to the arena, for 20 pounds doesn't seem so bad. Anyone else used these guys? I'm thinking this might be my best bet.

Can you drive? If I was in your situation I would definitely look into booking a car hire at Heathrow. The drive to Coventry is about 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on traffic.

Quotes for hire I can find are around £60 for a small car for Friday to Monday and you'd need to put aside money for fuel and parking so it could get pretty expensive but you'd be saving yourself hours of travel and be able to leave monday morning instead of sunday night.

Once you get outside London, public transport in the UK is pretty poor.

edit: maybe you could hang around Heathrow Friday morning and car-pool with some other gamers to split the cost

fyi as an american driver myself, when i went to scotland and then england driving was absolutely terrifying, you wouldn't think that driving on the wrong side of the road would be that disorienting but i probably broke like twenty traffic laws rofl. got honked at a ton too. i kinda regretted renting car honestly.

By doing national express I can get round trip for 50 pounds and it says 2 hours travel time each way, then I'd need to take a 15 min taxi from the pool meadow station to the arena. There is also a departing bus ride at 515 Monday morning putting me a couple hours ahead of my flight, I think that this might be the best way to go. Unless someone has to horror story I'm going to book it in an hour, thanks Emilio

Pretty much as you said, a flight that early on Monday is a bit awkward

This is a viable option and should allow for some buffer. I've checked any road closures and it all looks clear, probably as it's a very busy weekend in England with Monday being a public holiday.

Safe travels, I'm sure it will work out fine for you.
