ukmhelps if you have a goal or reason for not smoking that will keep you motivated

if you just have a vague sense of "this is bad for me so i shouldn't do it" it will be tough cause cravings are a stronger, more immediate motivation

you'll be more successful if you have an objective like "I want to run a 5k 3 months from now"

^This is very true
My grandmother died of lung cancer, I kept smoking until one morning after a heavy night of drinking and smoking I hacked up something bloody, and said ok enough of this.
What I consider first hand experience of "being bad for me" was an immediate motivation for myself, however second hand motivation wasn't enough (grandmother as an example)

This is just me, personally, and every person is different and sees the world differently, so just do the best you can at CANEI.

Constant

And yea, that whole after dinner cigarette sounds horrible and disgusting now. I don't get why I ever liked it.

I smoked for about a year. The addiction was pretty subtle; thought I could control it, but within about 3 or 4 months I was smoking half a pack a day already. I'll probably get -fragged for this, but weed helped me a lot with the initial withdrawal as it relaxed me and gave me something else to smoke, which helped with the habit part of it. Honestly, the hardest part to me was actually sticking with it after the fact, and it took a few tries, but I'm glad I did it.

kirby, you probably don't understand how much chronic smoking is inhibiting your breathing and your senses of taste and smell. Your body regenerates itself remarkably well. Within about a week or so of stopping, people smoking around you is gonna smell a lot different, and you're going to actually notice the smell for once. Food became tastier for me, the smell of other smokers became rather disgusting, and I noticed a hell of a difference in my ability to take deep breaths. You're gonna feel like a sweaty, nauseous wreck for the first week or so, but trust me when I say that I feel a hell of a lot richer these days; not just money--because you're gonna save a fuckton of money--but the quality of life in general. This vice just isn't worth the negatives.

And yeah, like the guy above me said, it really helps to have a specific goal. Mine, for example, was to stop by the time Fall semester rolls around, as that's when I'll be able to see my girlfriend again. 3 weeks left til then, still going strong.

I decided to roll with non-nicotine vaping. I'm gonna go with this for a week or so and if all works well, I'll lean off that and hopefully be able to continue on without having to switching to something else and instead get off everything.

once i switched from smoking meat to grilling it, my life completely changed. you have so much more control over the temp, rarity, etc. just a perfect way to make rare - medium rare chicken
