The Classic - Demo

I used to get a lot of requests asking how TFC sniping was done. I also got some recent requests to show the new Classic rifle in action. After pubbing some I went to see if there was a snipe server where I could test the Classic within it's natural habitat. The following is the result.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vcxug0vq42pcmcr/tfc2fort.7z

After a while they got chapped because they said I was only body-shotting, so I left. Hope that doesn't bore you to tears. All of the old techniques still work, (minus any headshot aiming you might do). Starts slow with only a few plays but then picks up.

It was real cool moment of nostalgia. Hope anyone interested enjoys.

edit: 19 min demo, if you want to skip ahead, things should pick up around the 12 minute mark

I just wanted to point out that in TFC no black circle margin, while TF2 still has the black circle margin.

To derail a bit - is there a decent TFC community in NA that you are aware of, bloodsire? There is a decent one in AU atm. 9 teams (10?), 4v4, and there's a parity system in place so teams are at a relatively close skill level (i.e. people are rated, and those numbers are distributed as evenly as possible).

If I remember correctly, this was config related on TFC.

Unfortunately, the Europe TFC scene died away as far as I know. There is still some teams active but of course nothing like the good old days of UKTFCL etc.

No leagues that i know of, but Wheaties and his crew still run an active 4v4 pickup...they play all the time. It's essentially the same group of 20 or so guys with some old schoolers now and then. I jumped in a few times for the nostalgia factor and it's still fun as hell. The active US competitive community died around '05, which is when most of the major teams quit. ae came back briefly to challenge us (TDA), and we had some incredible matches. Other than each other, there was no real competition. A lot of us, at that time, were just graduating from college and were getting into jobs etc. There was still a short time after that for competitive leagues, but that was the end of the big team era.

Hit wheaties up on steam though, he'll get you the server/irc info so you can join in.

Yeah we still do pickup games in NA. There's #tfc.invite on gamesurge, but mostly they happen on #inhouse which you would need to be invited to. So idle in tfc.invite and you can ask amir/wheaties or akw (akwid) if you would be able to join. Assuming you're not a dbag and have some idea of what you are doing or are willing to learn/listen it should be cool. Generally from what I've seen they happen most often in the 8pm-11pm PST time range in the US. Euro tfc pickups are very regular on #tfc.pickup on quakenet on the weekends with NA folks joining those midday US time. There's even some argentina pickups on #tfcarg on gamesurge as well.

League wise though I don't think there's anything in the US anymore. The catacombs (old community forum) being hijacked did not help.

I do wish the circle scope wasn't there as it was not in tfc...obviously that would help a lot for what I was doing in the demo, but I don't believe it would make so big a difference for use in a more native TF2 gametype. Really the big problem with the weapon is the low damage which can easily be fixed by rewarding headshots in a better way.

As for NA tfc leagues...I do not know of any.

For the dx8 problem, have you tried using 85? 80 and 81 ate just less secure versions of 85 as far as I know. Unless you mean to say it is broken across all dx8 levels, in which case :(

NA TFC was always ran through the players. We played in our own leagues, usually 2-3 leagues at a time. STA was always a big league. So was PFL, and TFL. Our community website (the exact thing as tf.tv) was www.thecatacombs.net - it's pretty much dead now though. The only people who are still around for the most part are the cheaters that were banned and never got a chance to play when the game was still competitive.

Rasp (some jerkoff who got control of the cats) ended up going mental and took down the site which was up for literally almost 15 years. They're trying to get the community back at http://www.tfcommunity.com - good luck.

phobiatoo bad this wep is broke on dx8 :(

i tried to fix the dx8 scope bug by replacing the classic scope files with the regular sniper's, it should work on pubs, not sure about pugs and lobbies, though.

hah...sounds about right for him. Don't think he plays too much anymore from what I've seen. The cheaters/aholes are kind of why they made the #inhouse chan which is invite only. I'm sure you could get added if you want to jump into some games more reliably. Blink you should give it a whirl again sometime too :)

he was definitely caught holding down spacebar and defying the bhop wall (or w/e you call it when you instantly slow down at 170% speed?) but no one cared anymore at that point..i think tf2 had already been released or some shit.

TFC was so far ahead of its time. If valve made a simple port TFC would pick back up again like it was nothing. Bring back capture the flag which made matches more interesting.

I've thought about it, with my new pc TFC would run like butter. Problem is i'm an old man now and I don't have much time to put back into it. Its been a long time lol and the feel is very different from TF2. I'd have to get an old config back too.
