Hi there,

I've volunteered to be a photographer/videographer/tech support guy for One Step Camp this summer. In an effort to help produce a more professional product for them, I want to get a better shoulder rig.

This is what I have right now:

I'm okay with the follow focus and shoulder support, but the plate sucks. I want a better plate, better rods, and quick release. I've been looking at the offerings from SmallRig (plate, quick release) and they seem to be the cheapest option but they have very few reviews.

I'm totally open to suggestions for relatively cheap ways to improve my rig, and would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Lange

Posting this thread on a TF2 forum was probably ill-advised, but on the off-chance anyone wanted some follow-up I am currently looking at the Edelkrone Pocket Rig.

It's been years since I've thought about this kind of thing, but I would definitely search around/check out Film Riot. They've made hundreds of videos specifically pertaining to DSLR video shooting, and I recall a good dozen or so of DIY rig tutorials. Stuff that doesn't cost much more than a trip to home depot. You may have to dig a little bit, as the videos I am thinking of are now a few years old, but I'm sure you can find guides for anything you need there.
