People getting hacked!

Seems like just recently a lot of people's steam accounts are getting hacked, and their inventory is disappearing. from what i read, seems like a phishing thing, or a false login page, like does anyone know elaborate detail of this ordeal? or is it one's carelessness which is leading them to fall into this hacking scenario? curiosity got the best of me!

thanks

I've been getting added daily for the past week, people just messaging with a typical scam message (linking to something like "steamcommuniity.com").

If somebody adds you out of the blue and says you're their new best friend and to have some free games, you should probably report and block them.

Yeah i've been getting adds as well on steam and someone will say something like "hey my friend can't add you for some reason can you add him?" then post a fake steam link. Don't sign into steam or put any information into it if that happens.

The most likely way people get hacked is through phishing links --> fake login pages --> hijacked

Phishers have started to come up with more elaborate things, not just the classic "my friend can't add you, add him here: FAKE STEAM LINK"

lately i've seen fake csgolounge links and a fake inventory attempt(http://forums.steamrep.com/attachments/screen-shot-2014-03-09-at-2-16-10-pm-png.58520/)

regardless, don't click links people send you

oh, ok thanks! yeah, i assumed that it was a more complexed way people were hacking, so a little Internet smarts could help avoid this, i thought it was a more hardcore approach by these "hackers" thanks for the info! helps a million!

There has also been a bot following tf2outpost trades for a while now. They add you, say "hey, my friend wants to trade with you at <insert phishing link here>" then immediately remove you. It's happened to me every single time i open a trade so far and it's kinda annoying.

In Chrome, when you're on an HTTPS site of sufficient prominence, they should have this green badge that says the name of the company beside the URL. This is usually a good indication of if the site is legitimate or not (aside from checking the spelling and all that).

This is an SSL certificate that's obtained by Valve 1) paying a bunch of money 2) providing proof that this website belongs to them, and that they are who they say they are.

If you do get added by someone like this, make sure to go to their profile and report them for phishing.

if you get a friend request like 5 seconds after you bump a thread on tf2 outpost, accept it, if you get a message in like the next 3 seconds close out the chat and don't even bother reading what they said.

I've heard of people getting their accounts stolen just from clicking a fake steam link w/out entering anything at all.

Yeah. Yesterday, right after I bumped a post on "TF2Outpost" someone added me saying his freind wanted to trade with me. I didn't even realise the link was false, but thankfully Chrome blocked it. lol

I guess since you guys experienced this, did you experience the "unknown notifications"?
It would say you have notifications, as not seen messages. And when you click on it, it just says: "Unknown". To fix this I simply block the person; then unblock them. Then the notification will dissapear.

Same Master G guy added me too, along with like 20 others. I've also gotten those for my csgo stuff--do they auto target people with expensive stuff that don't have a lot of hours?

All you have to do is go to http://steamcommunity.com/chat and they will disappear.
Those are basically bots that add you, send an offline message to you and remove you.Levaing you with notifications.

Watch out for steam to be staem , community to be connunity, comunity and other little mistakes . I've had a few adds too, I'm not really sure how they're targeting people .

Also they won't have conversations with me :(

I usually just close my entire chat window then open it again. And it goes away.

I got a phishing link one time so I told the bot I wasn't going to click it. It called me a fag and blocked me.
