i recently killed my mouse, so i'm pretty set on getting the zowie fk, but i was just wondering a few things;,
How do you change the dpi, since it doesn't have software, can you disable dpi buttons?
How doe schanging the usb report rate work?
Does it have any underlying problems such as accel you can't disable?

I have an ec1 evo and the button to change the dpi is on the bottom of the mouse, so you won't hit it unless you try to. There is no accel with Zowie mouse and i'm not sure why you would change the usb report rate.

It says you can change it on the specs, idk why either.

You could easily get your questions answered just by googling them, but for your convenience:

450 / 1150 / 2300 DPI adjustment. You simply tap the button on the back of your mouse to change DPI settings. 450 = red, 1150 = purple, 2300 = blue.

As for the usb report rate, you change report rates you must (if I remember correctly) press one of mouse4(?) along side mouse1 for a specific report rate, same goes with mouse 2/3.

As for acceleration, no. However The dpi compared to other mice isn't very accurate according to my sources, so 450 dpi may be 460/470. But it shouldn't be hard to adapt to such a small change.

hope this helped

this is all true except for the polling rate, which is really just explained in a strange way so ill elaborate:
you change the polling rate of any zowie mouse by unplugging it then plugging it back in while holding down specific mouse buttons for each polling rate (125Hz might be mouse1+4, 500Hz might be mouse2+4, etc.) the three polling rate steps are 125Hz, 500Hz and 1000Hz

do all zowie mice use the same sensor? so they will all be off by like 20 dpi? THAT'S KINDA SHADY

Idr the reasoning but all of them have ~25 extra dpi on top of the advertised EXCEPT for the AM which has like ~70 extra dpi.

interstellarpineapplereading that post on the other forum, has anyone noticed the dpi changing on the mouse?

It won't change, it'll be constant, it'll just be off a little.

People get way too invested in these kind of things, guys like r0ach start sounding schizophrenic input lag e_e

The main thing you should look at when choosing a mouse is size and shape.

The dpi will be constant, there are just some people that claim the values advertised by Zowie aren't the real values.

Actually, exact dpi might variate depending on the surface you're using the mouse on for ALL mice(including non Zowie), by little amounts. Look up Avago sensor sheets and even the linked Overclock.net forum I think has some info on that.

The FK is, ihmo, the closest to a perfect mouse you can get if you like the shape: no-accel sensor, tracks at decent speeds, has low lod and low weight... Only thing that bothers me is the Huanos, but it's possible to mod them out, too.

The issue is more that Zowie uses a custom lens to lower LOD further, it makes the native DPI steps weird values (only native value you can use is 2300) and makes it much more inconsistant surface to surface

For what it's worth, your dpi will be constant, just not as advertised.

I just started using the AM today and I only have positive things to say about it. Everything is the same and the feel is nice.

Pretty much this.

I was the one who made that post on OCN about the dpi changing, it's not as big of an issue as I made it out to be. It's something that I haven't noticed since then with a Zowie FK and EC1 evo.
My intent was not to make someone paranoid about some small detail on a mouse, I apologize for that.

As said earlier in the thread, don't get too invested into these things. I've personally stopped caring about the little things (especially the whole "smoothing" thing being talked about on OCN) and I just use whatever feels comfortable.

Basically just ignore all of that nitpicking about Zowie's, ever since I started using an EC1 again I have nothing but good things to say about it.

@platypus

I understand the concern about the custom lens but I haven't had any issues at all. I personally like the LOD decrease, and haven't had any issues regarding inconsistencies. Then again, I use a solid black mousepad (Qck) and haven't tested it on multicolored surfaces. I used to use a Qck+ Fnatic ed. but the orange and black colors messed with my CM Storm Spawn (old mouse).
