"Optical sensor features zero hardware acceleration" http://i.imgur.com/WIvBrQG.png Hopefully a steelseries mice that's not laser that has no acceleration/prediction. Steelseries is asking 60$ for this mouse, this could by a good step forward for them if the sensor is not like the kinzu where prediction is everywhere.

do you actually have to have a 3d printer to do it or will they provide a service to do it automatically?

Somebody who owns one will probably take the initiative to make and sell those online, I doubt Steelseries is gonna be doing that themselves.
I think if you buy it directly from the steelseries site you can order a customized nameplate at the end for an extra fee.

Tested it at gamex in Sweden, was very similar to the intellimouse 3.0 and feels great in the hand.
The grip on the side is also nice when twitch aiming, especially for scouts. The mousepad that was in use at gamex was steelseries classic qck+ and it worked perfect. The glide was very smooth

The real question is, how easy will it be to fit the sensor and PCB into a Sensei case......

Hmmm.

You can do a quick google search and find a bunch of online sites that will print and ship anything to you for a pretty reasonable price.

it has been reported that the sensor has alot of smoothing so accuracy would not be a gurantee

pretty sure the 2013 death-adder also has smoothing and most people don't have issues with it. I'm hoping its the same for the rival.

I use the SteelSeries Sensei, is the acceleration prediction really that bad? I haven't noticed any issues personally, am I missing something?

I've used the Sensei happily, but upon switching to an optical I could really feel a good difference. I used to say the same thing you did lol

You're right, the DA Black and 2013 have perfect sensors on par with the G400

it does have a smoothing algorithm.
"All mice work upon algorithms in which dictate how a cursor moves or tracks. All modern mice have a form of smoothed cursor control to compensate DPI and other things. This isn't limited to Deathadder 2013."

2013 deathadder does have smoothing. Both have smoothing. Basically they code for the highest dpi possible on the mouse and then they use that same code for everything below it, so all dpi settings suffer from the latency created by making code to make insanely high dpi optical mice.

Best case scenario would be they do something like they did with prediction in the past, where they introduced firmware updates to get rid of prediction for shooter players. They could introduce a firmware update that either lowers the max dpi, or makes it work worse at higher dpi in order to prevent latency at lower dpi, and then the only people that would install that firmware update are the people that don't care about high dpi, so the people that think high dpi is good would get high dpi mice that work as good as possible at those high dpi, and those that know better would update the firmware and get improved latency/ no smoothing.

Is it just me or does the mouse look a bit small? Almost like an RTS mouse akin to the Razer Salmosa.

the review i read said it was basically a longer, slimmer DA 2013, with large side buttons.

I really like lighter mice with a palm grip feel and I don't think that this will fit the bill. I'd love to use an ergonomic mouse but an ambidextrous one works just fine for me. I currently use the Zowie AM which weighs 88 grams and the Steelseries Rival weighs 128 grams. I think it's a bit too heavy for my taste so I will likely not be purchasing it.
