JDMYoshiokaI liked how they included scorpion master briefly in the Mango part. (shoutouts if you know what I am talking about.)
you mean when mango just played mario for awhile and would make top10 as mario lol.

Kind of disappointed and amused in the last chapter, a little bit of fibbing going on that one of the youtube comments reminded me of. The EVO 2013 poll was not, in fact, won by Melee....it was won by My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic. I shit you not, I remember that really well and how outrageous it was. In the end, FiM ended up bowing out because the game was still in Alpha and the devs didn't want an Alpha on the main stage of EVO, and it went to Melee by default.
Gee, I wonder why they completely skipped over that?
EDIT: I believe I got my facts mixed up. My mistake! Still pretty humorous.

Because its not important and Melee was the game played at Evo.

JDMYoshiokaDidn't include the famous M2K getting kissed by a girl picture in the documentary.

Damn that girl is hot! What's the story behind that picture?
I've only played Melee a few times and I knew nothing about the competitive community but I'm LOVING this documentary. It does a fantastic job going through the history of the scene and the top players. Wife and Chillen are great in their role of providing background, which is crucial for any documentary.

people get hype for any high level falcon player, mostly because he's the worst top tier character, and because he's insanely fun to play/watch.
that's why falcon dittos are the greatest thing in all the universe

It's all in the knee. Fuck why did they butcher it in Brawl (in addition to everything else).

part 8 where they show the videos of people running outside for genesis 2 and hungrybox was talking, i was there ;). fighting games in person are probably the best of any video game you can attend in person. the hype in person is surreal.

TuggerBecause its not important and Melee was the game played at Evo.
It might not be important, but its funny, and its also true. Mentioning it would have brought some more humorous lines from the interviewees, and I just don't like rewristing history in general because its embarrassing.

If I'm not mistaken the last game at EVO was decided by a donation drive, of which MLP:FiM dropped out of long before the end. I don't see how you can say it won, it got 4th place to SSB, Skullgirls, and ST by a pretty massive margin, and it was pulled on January 14th, nearly 15 days and $162,000 before it ended. Saying it "won" because it was leading before the drive even picked up some steam (and then lost by nearly $35k to the next place finisher) isn't true, now is it? Melee won by $10k (and $60k over MLP).

Because Fighting is Magic got a C&D order or summat.
Iunno.

I loved this game to death growing up and even though I lived somewhere where it was near impossible to really get into playing it competitively, it was a fiercely fought game between just my circle of friends. I was totally obsessed with watching vids of SSBM for a few months in high school.
Speaking of which, does anybody at all know where I could get my hands on some of those old Punch Crew videos?

TwilitlordThomasduhtrainI've been to a few melee events and shit, it's cool but it doesn't seem to be that active in the midwest, is there shit that goes on in the midwest anymore(is FC in indiana still around even?)
Man I wish we had anything in the Midwest, I've been trying to find a Street Fighter or Melee weekly in KC for awhile now and there's nothing. Closest thing I've found is casual matches at my community college during lunchtime but they only play Brawl for Smash and you can't bring your own stick for conventional fighters. I think most of the fighting community in the Midwest is concentrated in Chicago or something.
Shit i live in chicago and i didn't even know the mid west is apparently based out of here . That's crazy, and pretty convenient i might have to go to one of these in the next few weeks.
EDIT: lol i'm dumb as hell on the smash boards just listed in events there are like 2-3 events just within the next five days right around chicago

I've played maybe 45 minutes of Melee in my entire life and enjoyed every second of this documentary.
The parallels between the SSBM scene and the TF2 scene are pretty cool. SSBM got a little more help, being on the MLG/EVO circuits, but both had little to no dev support and have carved out a nice niche for themselves on the backs of the players.
The personalities in the Melee scene are really what stand out to me. All of the players they focused on are legitimately interesting people. I was even interested in the smaller personalities doing commentary.
The fighting game scene seems awesome. Makes me wish I'd gotten into it. Played a ton of SSB64, but I got into the original XBOX and never really played anything on the GCN.

It's unfortunate they didn't touch on Wobbles, the guy is one of the best casters in melee, and plays a ridiculous Icies that got him to 2nd place at EVO this year.

Yeah, there were a couple important players, like Armada or Dr. PP that they couldnt cover due to money/time constraints. still amazing that basically one guy did the entire doc by himself.

This was so phenomenal. I'm a lot more engrossed into SSB64 but this was still interesting nonetheless. It makes me wonder how hard it would be to do something like this on the history of TF2, considering a lot of older demos/ESEA lan footage has been lost over the years. Their community seemed to record their history extremely well.
Also, Isai is a god.
