mill just say shit i dont like

overused songs
smoothing/slowmoing everything
flares/dust/stupid shit on the lens
shaky camera just because you were too dumb to make anything else happening
oversyncing everything
"asdofuashdfouh productions"
third person pans of snipers/soldiers/demos before they headshot/airshot somebody
stv hitscan
no crosshair
clips against braindead players/pugs presented in a serious manner

You complain about all these things, then you post a frag video where the entire thing has a stupid filter over it. Every single clip has slow motion in it, including when its just splash damage from a wall or floor. You dont like branding intros, but the video has 30 seconds of just random effects before there is even any gameplay...

What I like is good frags synced to good music

what I don't like is a video editor's wet dream that uses tf2 as the base

Really original stuff. The frag at 5:05 in this comes to mind, where the medic, first to respawn on gravelpit, offclasses to sniper and drops their med from spawn. Anything like that that is so far-fetched I have never seen anything like it before makes a video watchable for me.

I personally loved this to bits, but to get the full feel you have to watch in fullscreen on highest quality.

pug snipers aren't people so stop making videos of you guys going sniper in pugs

holy christ you're only encouraging other people to do so (i don't claim to be a better person than this for the record)

if the music is really upbeat and poppy then lots of syncs make it really fun to watch
cla's pop culture did this really well i thought http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDwu4uNTZc4

if it's a movie about a team i really like when it shows the whole team coordinating in a push or fight
the viaduct scene in subtitled's fanom at 4:20 did this really well http://youtu.be/ENruOrM01CQ?t=4m20s

Tell a story. Give meaning to each frag beyond the wow factor. Pull each character together, show the frag, and then show the effect of that frag.

A great example ----> PREM - by CUBE: http://youtu.be/jamuLPfQibU?t=3m6s

While setting up every frag with complicated split camera shots isn't necessary, make sure you don't skimp out on the background details. "Prem" never forgets to remind you that each and every frag is part of a much bigger picture that is competitive 6v6.

This is something I've thought over plenty of times. I understand like 99.9999999999999% of people want to see the crosshair, but there's never an explanation for why they do. I hope people don't take this as me not realizing there are clear reasons for it, because I'm also 99.9999999999% there are.

Reasons such as "it's easier to understand how someone aims when there's a tool to help you do that" or "it's natural to have, let alone see a crosshair in a playback of a T/FPS game". There are others, but those seem like they would be the more common reasons.

My question is, does a crosshair matter 100% of the time? And no, I don't mean to imply that people would like crosshairs in a segment where it's a smooth or anything else that's not strictly gameplay. For example, you see a part of a video where it features a soldier or demo and that specific clip doesn't have a crosshair. The clip after that features a scout, sniper or some other hit scan class, but that clip has a crosshair instead of not. What's wrong with having it that way? I can see consistency being a respectable argument, but honestly, I don't think it would be all that bad.

I'm not necessarily saying that it isn't interesting to see how a soldier/demo player aims, but let's be real here and realize that it's nowhere near as interesting to study as someone playing a hitscan class.

Don't force 1080p if your PC can't handle it and you can't make it smooth.
Smooth 720p > choppy 1080p.

Other than that, I like:
-crosshair, killfeed and in-game sounds ON (not too loud though)
-please don't overuse filters and effects (especially slow motion), unflashy editing is great
-good/original (doesn't have to be electronic) music with occasional sync (don't sync every single frag)
-unusual plays/situations

I absolutely love all carpets videos. Watched them like 10 times and i still find something funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFh25LuBjV4
I also love googlers clips their short and over-edited. Which makes them awesome. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fnk0enHMr6k)

I'm so sick of the over-abundance of indie/alt pop-rock in frag videos these days. I'd like to see more creative song selections that are based more on what the video maker wants to use and less of what they think will sound 'good'.

I'm also a huge fan of simple edits and nice color correction (blight FANOM's video was perfect cc.)

I like editing as long as it doesn't interfere with the frags if you know what i mean.
I also like frags that are synched with music.

Just turn off the projectile crosshair and enable the hitscan one?

Music that gets you hyped. Even with the best editing and frags, if I don't like the music, then I can't enjoy the frag video.

Don't use color correction. Fixing/changing lighting in a perfectly lit game is pointless and just looks awkward. Color correction is best used for actual video footage to attempt at getting the lighting you originally intended getting. It's for setting the mood/tone of the scene/video

Show Content
It's nearly impossible to do this in a game video without looking pretentious

. Also note that real life footage doesn't have a HUD overlay that will get royally messed up by color correction.

I like Beater's videos, they are simple and to the point. The videos are about the frags and not about how awesome the editor thinks they are at editing them: http://www.youtube.com/user/DanishActionHero/videos
