32hzyou mentioned it and continued to leave mumble 15 minutes later for unknown reasons like you always do

you were talking to me about 2 chainz and someone called my cell, at that point I just decided to go bed after the call so I just exited mumble while talking. I don't understand why you think I'd be mad after that lol

svfreyCC has been around for years now, right? Didn't Gmang's HUD have them built in or something? Or was that a custom CC system? I don't even remember anymore it's been so long.

Yes, gmang had (still has) them.

the301stspartanWait, does this display decloak?

No, only spoken sounds '

Not as far as I know, although there have been a couple of times when close captions have told me that the other team have an offclass when I wouldn't have known otherwise

It's a slight advantage in terms of less focus on the audio and not having to turn up your volume if you put your volume as low as I do. But if anything, using it also takes your focus off the center of the screen too

From my experience it's a lot easier to just hear the sounds once you know all of them.
The last time i checked the only real difference was that closed captions tell you wether it's a fake

Discovered snipers/pyros/heavies etc. by damaging them when I can't actually see them or hear the voice line over other in game sounds and mumble comms. Pretty damn useful I'd say.

When I used captions I had a custom text file to have the class icon next to the message that was being displayed. For example it would be "*pyro flame icon* PYRO CALLED". It can be useful, but it is definitely not overpowered...

In my opinion, I wouldn't call it overpowered or a direct advantage, it clarifies the game itself and its more of a reassurance. With a good ~30$ pair of headphones and volume turned up you can hear most of what is displayed in the captions, its useful for clarification of what is happening but i wouldn't call it overpowered or an unfair advantage.

I only recently began using captions not to long ago, and I never really payed much attention them, but I do find them useful. I only used them to confirm medic calls, and when I get a lot of damage with one sticky or rocket, to see what I hit. I wouldn't say it's overpowered, but it's nice to have.

The captions are coming off sound commands. Most of which you should be able to hear and pick up during play. For those with bad hearing theyre good.

Personally I felt no difference.

For any interested parties, I'm the one who created the Steam Guide.

As well as the project on Google Code.

Basically, the captions show up any time a certain sound is "heard" by the player. Even if it is far away, as long as you can hear it, you'll get a caption for it.

However, it's pretty limited as you can only apply captions to voice lines. Effectively no sound effects, so no cloak/decloak/DR/whatever.

In addition, captions can't tell the difference between a "faked" Uber and a real uber, so there's that.
