So I've recently bought a PSU thinking it was the problem that caused my computer to not able to post, after doing tests i realized that my mobo gg'd out on me. but seeing as my mobo is ancient-ish (talking about only being able to support ddr2 ram) i wanna upgrade altogether.

i have about 300 to spend, what could that give me?

or 400 to spend

Agreed on that.
Unless you want to do video editing or something, then you might want a FX-8350 for the same price, but if only for gaming, Rigel's suggestion will do more than fine.
