I've been doing mentoring recently for NC/AM players, and I wanted to link some Youtube guides, but there's so little out there with relevant and recent information. To be fair, people like Mr. Slin, Aegis and misc. B4nny clips are what I learned on years ago, and they still hold up, the fundamentals don't change that much. Problem is that most of those videos are a bit too old, and new players probably wont click/find them unless vouched for by mentors. Outside of that, you're only going to see hour long vods of x,y and z map/demo review or pov demos uploaded with zero editing. Rumpus is the only semi-active comp TF2 creator I can think of, but his videos are more about nuanced mechanics or podcast style as opposed to a condensed guide format. Although he has a very relaxed style and is very knowledgeable.

So I'm gonna do it myself. I wanted to hopefully have up to date videos on 6s & HL ready for upcoming players for specific class roles, game dynamics and maps. I am not an invite player, maybe never will be, but I feel like top players don't want to bother with making this type of content anymore, which is fine, the game is old and the amount of views you'll pull is probably low.

There is the newbie review website I was happy to discover as a noob, but it doesn't offer a whole lot and yeah, most material is pretty old.

Here are some basics that may sound silly now to the older players but that have improved my team's gameplay dramatically after a little mentoring (most of us played their very first 6s) :
- positioning meta for every map
- ad/disad concept
- passive/aggressive play
- purpose of a sac
- how to clear comms and what's important to say
It felt like a lot of the veteran players who coached us expected us to know this stuff but without clear guides in the wild there was just no way, so it was a long road until we managed to explain that when we say this is our first 6s and we don't know shit, we mean it.

And on a personal note I would love to see a series similar to rumpus's demo guide but for other classes.

It might be a bit "too advanced" for players who are just starting off in 6v6 & HL but these 2 POV channels are very usefull to learn and improve positions aswell as learning some one-tricks top players might use. (bonus point for the HL POV channel which uploaded VODs with communications so new players can learn from that aswell).

The most important info for brand new players, in my experience, is gamestate knowledge stuff. So, when it is a good idea to push, hold, sac, countersac, play passively vs aggressively, and so on. It seems simple but there are a lot of different combinations depending on uber ad/disad, players alive, what point you're on, etc., which a lot of new players have a difficult time understanding
