Hey all,

I just downloaded and set up HLAE for use with Lawena to smooth some demos for a project im coming up on.
I have a problem where when I start TF2 from Lawena (with HLAE) the game instantly crashes.

Do I need to use an older version of HLAE? I'm using the latest. Lawena settings are pretty much standard, no custom stuff enabled.
If anyone has had any problem similar any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: The problem comes directly from HLAE. Lawena works fine without it but I would like the extra smoothing features of HLAE.

have you tried these troubleshooting steps that were posted in the thread you copied?

HLAE FAQ PageThe game crashes / crashes upon recording / HLAE crashes / doesn't seem too hook (I see no message in the console):

-Updates to the game (when not in Steam's Offline mode) may break HLAE. Make sure you have the latest HLAE version and that your game is fully up to date

-Make sure that you have extracted all files from the download into a folder you like (i.e. on your Desktop).

-Start the game without HLAE once so that Steam has a chance to update the files, then try with HLAE again.

-Make sure you are not signed in any BETA: First right click the game in Steam library, select Properties and check the BETAS tab. Then do the same for any modification you have installed. Be sure to let Steam complete the updating of the game(s) in case you have to sign out of the BETA(s).

The issue could be with how Lawena launches HLAE. What happens when you start TF2 through HLAE yourself?
