I'm a huge fan of open world RPGs, whether action (Skyrim) or FPS (Fallout). I'm currently running through FNV and have been playing through Skyrim again. Besides other ES/Fallout games, what other open world RPGs are fun and possibly similar?

"The Endless Forest"

Your character is a deer and you live in a forest with other deer. There are no objectives besides being a deer. Also, there's no text chat (you're a deer, so obviously you can't talk), although you can do emotes like "kneel" "sit down" etc. It's a pretty extreme RPG experience.

The Mass Effect series is sooooorrta open world? It's really good and like the entire trilogy is like 20$ on amazon either today or soon, thats a steal, the first one is slow and gross, but 2 and 3 are really fucking good even if the ending isnt so good its worth playing, there's going to be a 4th, the multiplayer on 3 is actually really good and i think bioware is going to flesh it out even more with #4.

Fallout 1 & 2 are good, they're kinda slow though, you can play it one handed if that means anything.

LA Noire is pretty good.

if u like arpgs like diablo play path of exile

mass effect is good

Daggerif you haven't played oblivion yet then you should

This, and Morrowind. Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMO but went free to play awhile ago. The Witcher 1/2, Dead Island 1/2, EverQuest, Borderlands 1/2, that's about all I can think of.

Morrowind is far and away my favorite game of all time. It had a sense of exploration and danger that Oblivion and Skyrim never had because of the way the world levels with you in those two recent games. In Morrowind, fast travel was extremely limited, and if you accidentally found yourself wandering into the wrong area at the wrong time, you got fucked, or had to struggle to live in a way that matched the environment. The world was much more alive in that respect than in either of the Elder Scrolls games that followed it. I really wish modern RPGs hadn't become so spoon-fed to the player, which is probably why I enjoyed Dark Souls so much.

In terms of "open world" games, if you haven't put STALKER in your god damn computer you're fuckin' up. STALKER's gunplay isn't something that's easy to get used to, and you'll be doing a lot of walking, but there is a lot to do. That and modded Morrowind. I personally couldn't get into Morrowind too much, but the world, the characters in it, and the story around all of it is incredibly interesting to me and I'd probably end up giving it a chance again.

Real.

The stories I've heard about DnD are amazing. I've always wanted to try it but I live in the old people borough where usually enjoyable things enter a no fly zone.

Misery mod for STALKER is pretty much essential, too. +1 for Morrowind, as well. Couldn't stop playing through that game while I was younger & modding the shit out of it, despite the result taking 500 years to load each damn area. Obviously won't happen now with the quality of hardware.

The Witcher 2 is really good. Especially with the combat rebalance mod that was released by the devs. It really increases the quality of combat as opposed to it degenerating to: spam roll to get behind enemy, backstab. Not necessarily open, as once you finish each act, you can't go back to that area.

Risen & Gothic series are decent (and kinda open world?), though the controls in Gothic are an absolute pain in the ass.

DA:O is also kinda open world, I guess. My first playthrough took me ~200 hours, and I only think that was everything (sidequests etc) 85% completed. Had a lot of fun with this one, despite me unintentionally playing the op class (Arcane Warrior). If you want to have fun with this game, I recommend playing it on a hard difficulty.

I beat DAO sometime last year and it was a great game. I might play DA2, but I'm not prepared. I should just wait for DA3 since that's supposed to be an actual sequel to Origins.
