Starting yesterday (Monday May 21) my ping all of the sudden increased to every location when playing TF2. I live in Colorado and usually ping 40-50 to Chicago and 60-70 to New York, now I ping over 100 to both locations. I have no clue what could be causing this issue. I also checked what my ping was on my laptop with a wireless connection and it is the exact same as my wired connection. There are a few devices that connect to my internet including: my pc (wired), laptop (wireless), printer (wireless) and xbox (wireless).

Things I have tried so far:
- rebooted my modem from the online control panel
- did a hard restart with the button on the back of my modem
- restarted my computer with all start-up programs disabled to make sure it was nothing running in the background
- called my isp they say everything looks fine and nothing has changed
- used CCleaner

Things I have downloaded/updated on my system recently:
- updated Norton 360
- updated my graphic driver (ping was high before I updated this)

I have no idea what could be making my ping this high, some of the guys on my team think maybe the tornadoes in Oklahoma could possibly be causing this? If you have any solutions or anything I could try please let me know, feel free to add me on steam.

P.S. If any other info about my system or anything is needed please ask and I will do my best to get you the correct info.

Thanks for your time!

How are your pings to websites and servers like google? (go to cmd and type "ping 8.8.8.8")

Also please uninstall norton. Not for ping issues, just because.

Okay so I did that thing is cmd and got the following:

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 37ms, Average = 36ms

This issue started happening for me last night.

I normally ping 40-50 on dallas servers, and suddenly my ping is 90-100.

On susurfit I was getting 130 (normally 50) but I reset my modem and now it's down to ~80, which is better but still much higher than normal.

On reddit mge atlanta, I ussually get 25-35 and now the lowest it will go is 70.

I assume it's some sort of routing issue of course. Why my routing would change literally overnight is beyond me. I recall hearing some people say that their routing often changes randomly to NFO servers.

This has happened once or twice in the past and the problem eventually fixed itself. It sucks having to patiently wait but I have no idea what to do other than call my ISP.

edit: I -KNOW- that this high ping is not being caused by someone else on my network watching netflix or using the internet. I'm wired directly into my router, no one else is even in my house, and my ping is fine and normal on most servers, it is only certain servers that this occurs with.

Norton is rather a lot like scumware - it's basically impossible to remove.

Chances are, since multiple people are reporting problems, it prolly has something to do with something important getting busted by storms.

go to CMD type ping www.google.com -n 50 (that will give you an idea of how you're doing going west).

Then ping www.whitehouse.gov which should be east bound for you.

You could also do a tracert to a server you KNOW to be in chicago or New York - like the white house website and see if you're getting routed through Florida or some wackiness like that due to broken stuff.

Or maybe a hub you use has been overburdened recently.
