I know when I'm streaming I feel a noticeable difference between when I'm streaming and when I'm not, the game feels a lot more jittery and less responsive and was wondering if there's anyone here able to possibly help me figure out the issue.

I use dxtory and OBS to stream

Here's my internet up and download

OBS settings

vbvmaxrate=3000
Send Buffer Size 5840

PC specs

2 nvidia 660ti gtx's

Your internet should be fine for streaming, I've seen people with speeds as low as 3-5 upload do fine. As for in game performance I don't know enough to talk about it

What quality/fps are you streaming at?

If you're in 1080p 60fps you'll definitely see a difference.
I think you should be fine if you stream in 720p 30fps.

Also play TF2 in DX8.
Are you using a graphics config?

There are so many variables...

use the built in game capture from OBS rather than dxtory, much less jitter and stuttering

Judging by your hardware, you should be getting much better performance.

Your hardware tramples on mine, yet I can stream 60fps 720p, while playing at 200 fps.

The issue shouldn't be in your Internet, either.
I'm stumped.

You need to post the resolution that you are streaming at and the FPS as well. The quality that you choose to stream at WILL affect your TF2 performance.

Your internet connection has nothing to do with the jitter or whatever else that you feel. It only changes how people see your stream.

Also you need to update your OBS - send buffers are no longer something you can control

I've found that since getting a second monitor, having Aero on while streaming causes a noticeable performance loss in TF2 along with a slight amount of input lag. The strange bit is that with only one monitor, I was completely fine with having Aero on. If you have two monitors, might want to try having Aero off when playing/streaming TF2.

Yep. It looks good.

So....when your streaming at 60 FPS your system is gonna take a huge performance hit. It's only natural that it feels less smooth when you play. If you're using windowed mode on TF2, that's definitely hurting as well. OBS does really well with game capture so if you can use full screen TF2, do it. Other than that, make sure you're closing background applications, web browsers, etc.

Also did you say you're using dxtory + OBS? Dxtory doesn't even need to be used anymore just use the built in game capture.

so what happens when you move to windows 8, where aero is supposedly ''gone'' (although some of it's features are still there)? I was gonna upgrade my computer soon and maybe look into streaming and since i happen to have 2 monitors I'd like to know what I should be wary about

I have never used Windows 8 and know almost nothing about it, unfortunately.

I have windows 8 and a 2nmd monitor, I looked up how to disable the Aero features, started using the OBS built in game capture, went full screen instead of windowed mode and it seems much better right now.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions, appreciate it.

Well, except for one thing the game crashes when I tab out to my web browser on the second monitor which is why I think I was playing in windowed mode to begin with, any way to fix that? lol sorry

I've heard people attribute that to dx8. Try using Chris' dx9 config and see if it persists?

Try capping your fps, I used to have terrible jitter without an fps cap while streaming.
