So, we got three different versions. The 2003 film, the American 2013 versions and of course, the original source material, the manga. Now, for me, I watched the 2003 film before I even knew it was based on a manga. I did enjoy the manga for a bit, but it was so long, and I felt like I couldn't keep up with it. However I enjoyed the art, it had a good Lupin the Third vibe, it was pretty cool.

But with the 2003 movie, holy SHIT, that hallway fight scene, just a single take. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwIIDzrVVdc&t=39s

Now, that fight same scene alone in the 2013 version, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSIeUQ5RPc8 it felt so unreal. aside from the over exaggerated sound design, (the volume of the noises, the hits, it just didnt sound real, sounded like a cartoon) the fight choreography is just a complete joke. I mean, in the original, a guy literally broke his foot trying to do an upper cut in the single take, its just that good. You can feel how exhausted everyone is. But no, the sound design, I keep coming back to it. fuck, when they throw that plank of wood you cant even HEAR IT in the 2013 version, something was honestly wrong. its insane.

But yea, this shit was a big deal for me, I read a lot of the manga, I really am a fan. Idk why, I watched Parasite over at the Savannah, Georgia film festival. re-watched it again locally at theater here in town in Florida the other day, it made me think about this movie and the class I Saw The Devil. its not related at all, ( I did really enjoy parasite), but I wanted to talk about this flick. It made a huge impression on me. your thoughts?
