Stopped playing tf2 last night as normal and shut down, booted up today to encounter the "your computer cannot connect to VAC servers" issue

followed through with https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2117-ilzv-2837 :

  • dont use any of the conflicting software listed
  • restarting the computer (as well as steam) didnt fix
  • repairing steamservice didnt work
  • tried to restore boot settings but for some reason the values prompted didnt exist (?????????)
  • tried to repair the system files but everything was in working order after scanning

additionally:

  • uninstalled and reinstalled tf2, didnt work
  • uninstalled every other potentially conflicting steam game, didnt work
  • tried playing the game with and without config (comanglia's stability), didnt work
  • not using a vpn, though i had a couple of people ask
  • game ran fine before and up to 5am est before i shut the computer down

if anyone knows any potential fixes id be willing to try them out

everything on avast is up to date, as far as i know steam isnt registered as a threat in its databases, and hasnt caused problems in the past (i set hl2.exe as an exception as well, just in case)

i also reinstalled steam, if that helps

edit: fixed the problem somehow
