i noticed that like a whole bunch of people play bass when looking through this so lets talk some bass. whats your favourite bass line, what bass do you play, how long, whos your favourite bassist.

ive been playing for roughly 12 years i think but have yet to buy a good bass, just using my squier jazz bass still, but i got a bit of modification done to make it decent at least. recently found the pot by tool which is one of the most bangin bass lines ever holy shit. what i would give to get that tone out of my bass. also the intro to elysium by stratovarius has an amazing tone god damn, and that A# he hits, so good. my favourite bassist is probably les claypool just cuz of how silly and insane his riffs are, and he plays them while singing and jumping around stage and shit. must admit though i think geddy lee is better, he had a bigger influence on me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqnaLoy1Sh8 probably my favourite to play atm
I've been playing for 11 years, very on and off though. Claypool is the best! Everything of his is just so much fun to play.
I have a cheap ibanez 4string, and a 6string put together from warmoth. Should probably sell the 6er because it's a little big for me and I don't play it much

I've been playing for about 9 years I think. My main bass is a double neck Aria but I also have a double neck Ibanez that's tuned to B flat and a fretless 5 string ltd. My amp is an Ampeg V4-B and some 2x12 Avatar cab. I usually use a bit of fuzz or a Boss Hm-2 to add a little grit because I'm not a big fan of super clean bass tones.

https://imgur.com/NO8uPdz

I want to get an Orange Terror Bass 1000 but I need a way better cab so it doesn't blow up because 1000 watts is a lot of bass amp. If i had more money I'd get an Orange AD200 or a Matamp GT200. I have also been wanting to get a Rickenbacker 4003 for a while but haven't had the money.

I've been playing bass now for around 4 years (still blow massively) and I play HBZ-2004 from the deluxe series. 4 string ofc.

As I mostly listen to metal music, my favorite bassist is John Campbell from Lamb of God. His lines are just awesome to listen to and what kind of rhythm and structure he brings, awesome. My favorite track to play currently is Schism by Tool

Squier Jazz player here. Switched from guitar cuz my fingers were too damn long and kept tripping over themselves on the 6 string treble bass, never got good enough to justify the Peavy Cirrus 6 string that felt so perfect in my hand.
I like to warm up with this bassline:

I have a P Bass, this one

https://medias.audiofanzine.com/images/normal/squier-classic-vibe-precision-bass-60s-740102.jpg

My favourite Bassist is John Wetton (sadly RIP). Was a member of King Crimson, Uriah Heep and founded U.K and Asia (you might know the "Heat of the Moment" track). His early work was pretty amazing since he was more more aggresive.
One example of the most known work of King Crimson:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJZH4_aavL0

And one of his best basslines with Roxy Music

Have a cheap dean XM zone bass, though looking to upgrade in the near future. been playing bass for about 2 years primarily, been playing guitar for a while before that. Really enjoy a good metal bass line, one of my favorites is the work on Fatal Illusion on Megadeth's Dystopia album. The bass parts in this song are complex, really fun to play, and sound great

Played bass for eight years and only began taking it seriously for the last four.

I've got a laguna and a 5-string jazz fender and a RUMBLE.

What's y'all opinion on petals? I've only just got a Big Muff and I've been loving it but I'm looking to expand. Any suggestions. Mainly looking at Envelope / Overdrives but anything is welcome.

You should check out the Russian Big Muff reissue that just came out. It's pretty cheap and sounds really good. I'm a big fan of the Boss HM-2 and Earthquaker Hoof for bass. A Proco Rat would also be worth looking into.

For OD pedals the Darkglass ones are all really good if you don't mind spending a lot, I use a fuzzrocious demon as my main overdrive though
most of the time i just use the gain channel on my amp for a dirty tone

picture from last week with my 1973 Hagstrom bass

I used to mostly mess around with bass back in middle school when i had time and got back into it late high school for a while with a better attitude toward playing. No idea on exactly how much I've played but it's been very off and on.

I've always used the same budget learner FirstAct basses ever since I started learning way back when, because I still had it with me after I stopped playing and because I never got the cash to get a new one. It's pretty old and heavily used by now. Part of its face panel has been chipping off ever so slightly and I snapped one of the rubber rings off the E tuning key during tuning once so if I don't play the poor thing enough it'll just tune E to whatever over time. I've wanted to buy myself one of those Hofner violin bodied basses ever since I saw Nick Allbrook use it live and I thought it looked hideous and great at the same time. It's a bummer that they're vintage because they don't come too cheap.

I tend to learn whatever bassline catches my interest, but most of what I play and like involves alt/grunge, slacker rock and psyche rock. This can be anything from Weezer to Tame Impala to occasionally musicians like Mac Demarco, Homeshake, Cosmo Pyke, King Krule etc. etc.

Picked up bass this winter, still learning. Don't know any bassists outside of the bands I listen to (and I mostly listen to music that people here call "edgy shadowburn music"), but I like Nolly of Periphery and Tim of Dance Gavin Dance / Wolf & Bear.
