I've just bumped into this article.
Well... it didn't take that long to have the first overwatch map on tf :v

I've no idea how it works -and i've no high expectations- but i find it fun and maybe useful for a future project that we can take advantage of the similarity of the 2 games (game modes speaking) and take the cue from Overwatch.
That's the cool thing about tf: it's a very community-friendly game. Which is an aspect that makes it singular and awesome but at the same time gives that feeling of abandonment from the development team.

I really don't think ow is the game people should take inspiration from when making maps. They are all scaled up goldrush/hoodoo type abominations imo

Think what a single level 3 would do

id have to agree, OW maps are basically TF2 maps but more linear with less flank routes and with ridiculous sightlines. just look at hanamura or volskaya; first points are just 1 entrance with a single other entrance that is only attainable by like 3 characters. aesthetically i love OW map designs but for actual gameplay they are pretty shit imo

how ow koth maps would work, then?
(i'm genuinely asking, since i don't follow the scene)

In OW almost every hero has some kind of advanced mobility, while in TF2 we only have soldier, demo and possibly scout. Map designs are based on this fact, so OW maps would feel unbalanced in TF2.

advanced "press shift" mobility

e: yeah the map might not play well but if you get it looking visually similar it would be a great map just to look at

toads_tfadvanced "press shift" mobility

Advanced in a "I can climb/get there without usual walking" way, not in "It takes skill" way.

koth (or whatever it's called in Overwatch) Ilios: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=723738998

I haven't played Overwatch since the open beta so I have no idea how true this map is to its counterpart but this has some stupid sightlines standing on the bridge/batts area and in general is rather claustrophobic until you get to the point.

Eros isn't a remake of Illios, It's an unrelated map that went through alpha and beta testing on TF2Maps.net, that just happened to be art-passed in a similar way.

Well if we're gonna say that anything beyond holding w is advanced mobility, pyro can det jump/powerjack, heavy has gloves, engi can sentry jump, and med can heal scouts. Plus anybody can surf.

Even if this doesn't "work", I think this will be super interesting.

Looking the different decisions taken in overwatch gives us a lot of different insight into the decisions made in tf2,and helps question assumptions held, which could make the game better in the long term.
