They're gonna need to optimize the game more if they're gonna limit the graphics customization.

The biggest problem is that valve said you only get 1 rank instead of ranks for each classes. This is so bad. For me personally, I'm pretty decent on a few classes and then there are classes I have 5 hours on and can't play for shit.

If the class/weapon limits stay as they are, I think the idea is to encourage people to play multiple classes and roles throughout a match rather than being "locked" in to a class.

This is pretty standard for most games these days. They don't give you a separate rank for each class that you play in Hearthstone or each role that you play in League of Legends.

the extremes of what makes a good medic, what makes a good demo and what makes a good scout are so wildly different than almost any other game out there, though. even in a game like LoL, the core fundamentals of the game still transfers between roles, in TF2 the fundamentals are very much stuck to per-class

like, I'd say it's stronger than different characters within fighting games, and in USF4 they have a separate ranking system for per-character

There's a difference between playing a different role like pocket or roamer (I know that's less of a difference than other games but still most people are better at one than the other) and then playing soldier, spy, medic or sniper. Like trash said there are massive differences between the classes. TF2 has different aiming for a lot of classes, different movement which is very complex and a different play style.

A unified rank will just discourage people from trying out other classes because they know they will get destroyed and lose ranks if they do and then next time they play their main it will be too easy for them, which also sucks for the people in lower ranks who end up against player much better than themselves.

"Wildly different" is an exaggeration, a rank that signifies how good you are at TF2 overall seems like the best solution to me. In my experience people are generally around the same-ish skill level on each class, obviously people will always be better at their main, but the skills are transferable i.e. aim, movement, gamesense.

People are stressing out too much about ranks, the ranks are never going to be a perfect representation of your skill. This can happen for any number of reasons, e.g. you were carried, you queued weird maps, etc. Ranks are a rough estimate used to match you against people of similar skill.

DamnEasyThen dont fucking play the class you are shit at in mm and play it in lobbys/pickup untill you are good enough???

You should be able to play the classes you're shit at for fun/if you want to improve against players around your skill level at that class instead of having to practice outside of matchmaking and then playing that class. Matchmaking should replace the need for lobbies and by that I don't mean lobbies should die out I just mean that valve wanted it to be a bridge between pubs and competitive.

Best thing they could do is 6v6 with class limit on 1 and have a pick system at the start where each player picks his class and each team has a player randomly assigned as a captain and he can ban 3 weapons.

This would be good because Valve could use data like regularly weapon bans and regular classes played in order to balance them, but it would also create a 'meta' for matchmaking (see league of legends where champion roles, bans and items change monthly).

Yeah great meta where some of the classes literally never get played. They shouldn't enforce one class for the duration of a game because only half the classes are versatile enough.

cl1 also makes sniper a full-time choice which is a snoozefest and should be avoided. Weapon bans could be implemented but the weird thing with tf2 is that just by banning one weapon you can totally fuck a class - this could be improved and it's something that would be p interesting but simply due to the effort of making a good system I don't think they'll go down this route.
