How is uber charge building rates determined? Is it based upon your healing rate? Why is it faster to build from boston basher than from soldier self damaging?

I think it builds faster when you are taking constant damage other than huge chunks of damage.

I'm pretty sure it builds at one rate when the person you're healing is under 142.5% health, and at another, slower rate when they're over 142.5%. So it'd only be faster to boston basher build if the soldier is bad at building.

one reason the scout building is used is so the soldier doesn't have to waste ammo

(and so he can keep spamming)

End of thread.

Also, that tf2wiki page is incorrect and out of date

Why scouts build:

1. Saves Ammo
2. Keeps scout close to med - and not running off and dying
3. Soldier's full attention is on spamming stuff and looking around
4. Somewhat less dangerous for scout to build because he achieves the optimal rate with less damage done to himself - whereas your soldier has to keep knocking himself under 275 and not letting it reach 275 - this is important because said soldier will most likely be called upon to stop anybody rushing the med and he'll need all the help he can get.

In short uber charge rates:

If subject is under 142% (275 on soldier for example) and not being healed by anything else, you're charging at the fastest possible rate (assuming no quickfix).

If subject is at full over heal - charges more slowly

If subject is being healed by something else (dispenser and/or other medic) charges even slower.

Marxist2. Keeps scout close to med - and not running off and dying

That's really why you should have both scouts building at the same time

As someone who plays med, I would be raging so hard if both scouts were bashing themselves near me while building.

everything everyone is saying is correct, but theres a handy chart that breaks it down as well.

There's hardly ever a need for the Scout to go under 125. Ever. The constant damage is what maximizes ubercharge build.

Slightly off topic but I die (figuratively, not in game) every time I ask a Scout to build but they bash themselves before getting buffed with like 70 health and then eat stray rockets and die.
