So I'm currently using the Acer GD235hz, and I hear that this monitor is notorious for having a large amount of input lag. My questions are: Does input lag severely affect gameplay? Would it be worth going with a lower frequency monitor if that means lower input lag?

edit: sorry, meant to put this in hardware discussion.

I dont think your monitor has serious issues regarding input lag. the only test i could find was comparing to a viewsonic, but at a non-native resolution for the acer, invalidating the test.
Where did you hear about that?

well if you do not feel like there is any input lag, then it shouldn't really be a big deal. The only time I've noticed any input lag was when I had two monitors running off my video card and that forced windows (b/c the other was 60hz) to drop them both to 60hz and I was forcing tf2 to run in 120hz.

I remember a 120hz monitor thread on tf.tv a while back with many people saying that the monitor had noticeable input lag. This is the only 120hz monitor I've owned so far, so I have no comparison, but going by the testimonials of other players I believe it to be true.

you're 100% correct in that you can't really tell unless you have another monitor to compare it with, but for me the difference between my acer and viewsonic 120hz was night and day.

it's possible that not every acergd235hz has bad input lag, but i'm certain mine did.

You'll never notice it unless it's really bad because your reaction time and mouse movement will match up to your aim. I own the 120hz acer and a 22" LG LCD as my secondary monitor, both from about the same generation. I do not notice the difference in input lag between the 2, it's impossible to tell side-by-side even after using both for several years in that way. I also tested an older 30" TV and a high-end Sony Trinitron CRT. My current monitors are an improvement over both in input lag.
