during your rocket jumps, you tap C with correct timing after you jump and you'll get more distance on your RJ's. Also called ducktapping.

it's where people accidentally press their C key when they are going for the spacebar to rocket jump, kind of like zomg and left-shift

It's referring to a very specific timing tho, people who can get it right consistently can do jumps like from one side of bats to the other in one jump.

L-Block probably doesn't want you to do it because it makes cheating jump maps much easier. I only want to get good at it so I can do certain jumps in comp easier.

Nah it's just cause it's silly really. It serves little purpose in comp but I guess it's useful for jump maps and things, but you don't really need it.

Question, what about this is wrong? Not sure I understand it if it's getting a negative response

If you get more height, wouldn't you inherently get more distance as well?

toothIf you get more height, wouldn't you inherently get more distance as well?

according to anarchays second tutorial, you get negligible vertical height with ctaps. ctapping is all about horizontal distance

there are still some nice height gains such as from gray bridge on badlands over/on top of the ramparts on spire (is that what they're called?)

anyone else think "c tap" is annoying (like me[hahaha you can't make that joke now])?

It's a pain in the ass to do correctly. I've only been able to do it on accident, or by getting really lucky.

From what I understand you just press crouch, get to about 1/3 of a full crouch, then release, jump, and fire all at the same time.

I can never get the timing correct and almost always just end up giving myself -60 health and end up going nowhere.

It can be useful in comp for things like getting on top of spire from more places (like patio), or jumps like from ramp to ramp at granary mid, or from the garage door to the nipple at gullywash mid.

Here's something that helped me to learn ctapping: bind your crouch key to mouse2 (right mouse button). I could never do it properly with my crouch bound to ctrl, now it's easy.

If you can't master ctapping, try just holding crouch but still getting the timing down. Apparently this is called "cboosting". I did this naturally while rocket jumping for the longest time, and when I learned how to ctap it was easy because I already knew the timing.
