Had a ton of fun playing in these even with my low iron scout dm. Looking forward to playing sunshine again and maybe some new maps tomorrow.

EDIT: Would it be possible to get some kind of stat plugin for the pugs tonight? A lot of people were really curious to see how they preformed and how well each class was doing on a given map.

Was a ton of fun. Medic is my worse class but i actually enjoyed playing it tonight. Would totally recommend for others to try out! Not only do you get to help a map maker improve his maps, but you get the fun of testing maps you never see played in pugs/mixes.

hookyVery fun today, ggs all around. Highlands needs a lot of work (and might be better suited for HL), so I'll be working on that.

Whenever I see the map name cp_highlands I briefly think it's an attempt to make the Highlander equivalent of Badlands.

I had a lot of fun last night. Other people should definitely try to join in.

Maps I liked:

koth_coalplant_a6
cp_warmerfront_test_b4

Obviously coalplant was fun, as it is for most people. Warmerfront was fun but thats just because I like warmfront already. But for the changes in that map... I don't think they made much of an impact at all on the way you would play the original warmfront.

Maps I didn't like:

koth_canopy_b3a
cp_highlands_a4

Canopy was a lot of fun, but I think it was way to easy to defend middle because you can see all 3 entrances from their spawn area to middle by standing at one point of the map, and its easy for the demo to deny entry from 2 of these entrances at once.

And like hooky said, highlands seems more like a HL map

I know you IM/Invite guys would rather sit on the sidelines and laugh about the fact that open players are giving map makers advice, but Phi and company would appreciate some feedback from higher-ups (saw B4nny's post about Sunshine and I agreed with a lot of the changes he suggested).

Yeah, sunshine was my favorite actually and was a lot of fun. It has a lot of potential especially if the spawn/cap times get fixed

I really enjoyed playing medic on sunshine in a pug of all things, even with my low open skill. Shame that was all I had time for. Excited to do this again.

So these were pretty successful. We tested a nice handful of maps, praised jesus, took shits mid-pug, ran 3 snipers on badwater, and bigdicked points. I think we had fun (at least I hope we did - that game on badwater_a1 was 'Nam flashback-tier).

Now for the problems:
1. The skill level problem from days of old came up again. The group is mostly open/ugc players, and it's still a pug environment. Some strategies couldn't be exploited to their full potential. The quality of map advice would most likely be very different if the skill base was a little more balanced. I do understand that having high-skill players being forced to play with lower-skill players isn't exactly fun, though, and some people just don't give a single shit about map testing.

2. It was a one-man show. We ended up having enough people to run 2 pugs on the same map, but there really wasn't a second party there from the start to coordinate a second group. I also got really tired towards the end, see point 3.

3. Holy fuck my dorm room is like Auschwitz. It's so fucking hot. They won't turn off the heat because the RA's don't know how to without calling maintenance and that takes a while for some ungodly reason.

4. There were a surprising amount of people and I only have a 14-slot server. Like I said, we had enough to run two PUGs at one point. It was sort of difficult because it wasn't easy for captains to pick people because there were more people in mumble than in the server. Setting up an IRC channel for NMW for picking players was suggested, but I'm still having trouble setting up the server I've got here, god knows what I'd mess up trying to get an IRC going. The problem with having a small server wouldn't have been a problem a few weeks ago, but now I'm here at my Uni and I have no job. I still have to pay off the last of my bill with whatever money is sent to me and I need to have SOME sort of reserve for myself for emergency purposes. Upgrading to a 24 slot server or 2 14-slot servers and keeping mumble up would in the end be really costly because I'd be hemorrhaging money without getting any to replace it.

5. Streaming. I'm a really shitty caster. Not that anyone would watch my stream in the first place because a) no one knows who I am, b) those who do know me either don't care or they're already playing, and c) I'm not listed, but it seems like a necessity in this day and age to have a stream. My stream quality is decent enough but I'm not particularly entertaining or good at being informative.

The point of this is that I'm asking for a little help and brainstorming. If anyone has any suggestions for alleviating if not straight out fixing these problems except problem 3 (the hall council has to fix that one), I'm open to hearing them.
