i'm not sure we've ever had this many viewers for a non-lan match, thanks everybody.

anybody know what specifically is attracting all the viewers? is it the weekly match schedule? hype? what can we do better next time to continue this?

Surprised as well. LoL is featured all over twitch.tv so I think it was just the TF2 following.

Presumably, we were front-paged. If not, then it was a combination of the hype + the actual content. We didn't do much more hype than normal - the reddit post, the tftv thread. Once the hype's out there, it's up to the viewers to decide whether it's worth their time. Nothing's gonna draw attention quite like the final match of the season between the two best teams in the game.

But yeah, glad to see our viewer count shot up like that. Cbear held it down fantastically, I hope I kept up alright.

Also:

THAT GAME JEEEEEEESUUUUUUUUUS

I did not get a chance to check the twitch frontpage at the start of the cast, but at the end it was definitely not featured. Really surprised me how many people were just there and actively contributing.

Before TFTV even updated its stream list saying that eXtv was live, there were already 300 people watching.

I had you guys up there for as long as I could. Promoted via my personal social media as well as Twitch's social media. Tough weekend with the Riot S2 finals, but it went really well. I think alot of new fans of TF2 were made because of that game.

Well done gentlemen.

i think its the populated server effect

No one joins a server when there are 2/24 in the server, but when theres 22/24 everyone wants in. As the viewer numbers go up people become curious and it snowballs. That's the awesome thing about a site like twitch.

Also TF2 streams are more networked now, Johns spreads the work like a pimp, the coverage has vastly improved with Cbear and Sal being the casters, and there seems to be more interest in the game. All good news.

About 3,600 views - 778 peak concurrent in the first hour, 527 in the second and my personal favorite metric: 2,400 comments in chat (about 6x what we had for Highlander on Monday - just shows how much more engaged the ESEA crowd is).

I was asking Sal about this - you guys are referring to the ESEA cast on eXtv last night, right? Those numbers are good, and what we should pull regularly, but by no means outstanding. I'm not trying to be a debbie downer here, but this is what I expect to see with every single cast we do. We have just over 4,200 subs on Twitch - assuming 10% of them tune in regularly, that means we should have at least 400 regular concurrents - factor in another 10-15% trickle in (those that show up after we go live, 10-15 min in) and we should see 700-800 concurrent for every cast, especially when we plug the shit out of it (which Gunners has been doing a great of, and shoutout to lyna for coming on to help Gunners out and schedule some more casts for us). The fact of the matter is, those numbers are what we regularly do for Highlander casts - personally, I expect MORE from Highlander, just because of the larger viewer-base - but it really is great to see the ESEA stuff finally getting on that level of regular viewers.

What's important, though, is that we don't rest on our laurels and think this is some sort of accomplishment. This is how it should be, and we're going to work hard for S13 to make sure that every cast has that many people when we go live and that we're live at least 4 nights a week with ESEA.

If you wanna continue having a streak of getting viewer records every LAN this upcoming ESEA LAN gonna have to be really hyped. The 5.4k (not sure what it was exactly) viewers of i46 is hard to top.

Concurrent? I doubt it. The other problem is I don't know how accurate ow3d.tv's numbers are - they could easily spoof viewers and manipulate them via API drop ins from other sources. Twitch has gotten significantly more accurate for their viewer counts and numbers in the past few months, so I trust their numbers more than any other streaming site - even YouTube. Pulling 5,000+ during LAN was something we regularly did, and wholly expect to do once again - especially if we're on ESEA Orange. Don't forget, we topped 6k last LAN which was more than the CS/CSS stream COMBINED.

vanillatv regularly gets 500-1000 viewers on their regular casts nowadays. On bigger games they get 1k-2k. Thats on twitch and that should be something we try to achieve in the NA scene as well.

The NA newbie mix group has basically 2.5k followers, and grows quite consistently every Saturday.(no idea why it's Saturday's and not Sunday) I'm sure extv could harvest at least a few followers from there. And watching matches can be good for newbie players as well.

More so than not Vanilla is constantly front paged. It must be something to do with the time they are on in the day. They are consistent in their video quality and casters ability. Consistent high quality production is the key. We could learn a thing or two from VanillaTV.

Yo, Sal and Cbear, that was an amazing cast you guys had last night. Positive, exciting, camera guy was great SUD, I was very impressed.

Id recommend we cover newbie mixes and before esea lan do a small newbie mix tournament, give the newbies some tournament experience :)

I've been wanting to cover the newbie mix matches, having some issues w/ HUD and other various things... once I get the rust knocked off my shit I'll be all over those.

If we the admins had to set up the teams for a newbie mix tourny, it would be more balanced, but it would be take a while to organize since not all of our players speak english, and gauging their skill isn't exactly easy. Some players are basically low open DM, with no game sense, and others are just completely new.

Or if we let them break off into their own groups we could probably set it up rather easily, I've been keeping tabs on the teams that are being created out of the newbie mix, so far we have like 3 and a third teams created, but the problem is one team can basically jump into UGC steel, they pugs basically every night, and have been scrimming. Where as the other two are just more so groups of friends i believe.

Newbie Mixes are tonight at like 8est, maybe a bit earlier depending on if people just randomly show up early btw.

Thanks, Brad. You guys give us more matches like this and we'll try to supply casts to match. Sal + Sud both did amazing jobs last night. When tf2 gets it right, the product is something special. Hopefully LAN delivers more of the same.

If you have friends that play games but not tf2, link them the VOD. I'd put that up against any cast/match/VOD from any of the major esports titles. Great game.
