#1520 PC Build Thread in Hardware

The i5-6600K is most definitely not happening on that budget.
I think that price is without VAT.
http://skinflint.co.uk/intel-core-i5-6600k-bx80662i56600k-a1290376.html?hloc=uk

So a) the CPU alone is not within your budget
b) you need a new motherboard
c) if you're going to do it properly you'd need new RAM as well.
d) if your cooler isn't compatible with LGA1151 (mostly a problem if you're been using the stock AMD cooler) you'd need a new one.

EDIT:
Some more ranting:
You really should have thought about the CPU becoming a bottleneck before you bought the 1060. You could've afforded the i5-6600K (or at least a non-K i5) and still gotten 80% of the GPU performance with an RX 470.

On a more helpful note:
Maybe you should figure out if it's a CPU bottleneck at all. People throw that word around and don't know what it means most of the time.

MY CRUSADE AGAINST THE 212 EVO BEGINS ANEW

http://skinflint.co.uk/raijintek-ereboss-black-0r100011-a1163291.html
Literally the same price as the 212 Evo
http://skinflint.co.uk/cooler-master-hyper-212-evo-rr-212e-16pk-r1-a684731.html
but better
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Raijintek/Ereboss/

And that's just the 2nd cooler on the long list of coolers that perform better than the 212 Evo and are the same price or cheaper except when it's on sale for 20-25$ in the US.

EDIT: Another one

I could go on.
Or name a budget and I'll name a cooler.

Even 400W would be enough. If you mean the model I think you mean however then I wouldn't buy either. It doesn't support Haswell C6/C7 states. In case you don't know what that means: They are idle states, e.g. when you're doing absolutely nothing because you're afk the CPU will draw only 2W. At that point some older PSUs think the PC is turned off and cut the power. So either you disable C6/C7 or your PC might "randomly" shut off.
Considering that the Pure Power 9 was released 2 months ago I think it being unusable (without changing some settings that most people don't know about) with any CPU less than 3 years old is quite embarrassing.

tl;dr
Pure Power 9 is a piece of shit. Don't buy it.

Here's some alternatives
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/486667/corsair-cx450m.html
Finally a good budget PSU again. Might actually reach 80 Plus Silver efficiency, same as the Pure Power 9. Better in all other aspects.
https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/317760/seasonic-g-series-450-watt.html
A bit more expensive, more efficient and a bit quieter.

FiremurkscribeSetsul himself probably has himself a 10,000 buckaroos pc build.I doubt that

Maybe you underestimate me.
For real though my PC consists of reasonable parts bought at reasonable prices. Just an unreasonable number of them.
Also I might have more than one PC. And a server. Or three.

hektiksetsul come to brazil

My presence does not lower hardware prices. I wish it did.
Or is this an invitation for a vacation?

What is "not too high"?
What qualifies as "good PSU"?

Your build draws around 350W max, a 700W is a waste of money.

What do you mean you think it broke? Have you actually tested it? If it turns out to be something else you're wasted some time and money.

Old PSU doesn't really matter. Especially since 700W Cooler Master tells me about as much as "it's 230V".

What would be your budget?

Nice!
I just now realised my edit might have sounded like some disgruntled complaint. It was more like "I should probably tell him but I'm too busy enjoying my new old HUD so this one liner will have to do".
Thanks for doing this, I mean I'm probably the only one who uses 7MF at this point.

It doesn't have have any effect. You could obviously still just play in 1440p in the 4K monitor. But if you've got it you might as well use it.

A package full of pc parts from a pc retailer? I'm confident Danish postal services and customs will be able to figure that one out.

I think I completely forgot to ask when you're going to build it.

Don't worry.

Forgot to mention that, still 40" for option 2. You said you wanted 40" so that's what you get. There are definitely some deals available. They won't be high end models obviously.

Mind if I ask why shipping from Germany isn't possible?

Either way it should still be possible with danish prices. ~245€ for the i5-6600 on komplett.dk vs ~215€ min in Germany. Assuming the other prices are similar the build should end up at ~1000€, that's still well below your 1300€ budget. So you could still move a little of that left over budget to the 40" 4K TV and we're golden.

I'll have to inquire some Danes if there's better or at least other options than komplett.dk.

#1508
Yeah, that might explain it.

4770K is just in that list so the build's complete, you're not going buy a new one, right?

EDIT:
Anyway you probably noticed that pcpartpicker doesn't show any mobos. That's because the 4770K doesn't support DDR4.

Assuming your RAM still works it should look something like this:
http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/3KfdD8
Don't get the Z97 Anniversary, the socket doesn't line up with the mobo tray on most cases so big coolers with a backplate are a hassle.

http://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/TgDwrH/asrock-motherboard-z97extreme4
Different mobo with a bit better audio. Supports SLI. Doesn't really matter directly since you'd be running two different GPUs but the higher bandwidth on the second PCIe slot is nice if actually do some rendering on the 2nd card.
Are you going to do that though?

Also a soundcard is probably a cheaper and better fix for your audio troubles.

Last but not least: You don't need a second GPU for a second monitor. Since it barely does anything for PhysX it'll be just extra heat. You could try to sell it instead or use it to upgrade another pc.

tl;dr
My suggestion: See part list. Not sure about GPU and case yet.
Keep the old RAM as well.
Sell the 770.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one, I mean even on this forum there's others.
There's two reasons why I'm doing it here and not on r/buildapc:
1. People actually trust me. I don't have to argue 5 times every day over why a 150$ aio liquid cooler is a terrible idea. OR why getting a 100$ 700W PSU for a 300W build isn't "future proofing".
2. People actually appreciate the help (case in point). I guess it's easy to forget on bapc that even if 10 users are offering help they are still all doing it for free and not because they have to.

#5
Maybe I'll make a post on how to choose hardware. At this point most people know what my cookie cutter build is anyway, they just don't know why yet.

I try.

Temp problems in Australia aren't terrible surprising I guess.
Check to be sure. There's lots of software that can log to a file so you don't have to pay any attention, just wait until it freezes and look at the log after rebooting.

What's your current fan setup? As in which fans and where and what CPU cooler.

Did you plug in the front ports?

Audio might just being onboard being onboard. If your mics require a pre amplifier then you're simply fucked with onboard. It just doesn't have that.

There's two possibilities with the RM650:
1. It's actually working.
2. It just never happened until now. The thing is the problem is mostly overheating. Go above half load and it'll shut down. But with the 4770K and a 770 you probably never went above 50% load.

No point in replacing it if your new build doesn't trigger OTP either. Just warning you that it might happen, especially if you run 2 GPUs.

Now about that, it would lock you in to nVidia. Why do you need a render card? Because a 770 certainly isn't worth it for PhysX. Basically nothing even uses it on the GPU. It's all on the CPU anyway.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_hardware-accelerated_PhysX_support
Take Fallout 4 as an example. There's bullet collison debris. That's it.
From the top of my head another example. Mirror's Edge. PhysX but it's on running on the CPU.

"rebuild" how does that even work? If you're going to get it built it sounds like a new build.

Anyway it's bullshit.
Your pc is definitely not dying as whole. Figure out what's wrong and fix it.
Buy another 8GB stick of RAM.
Done.

Maybe replace the RM650 since it's literally the PSU antichrist. It would've been overpriced if it actually worked. But it took Corsair two recalls and revisions and one manufacturer switch to even get it working.

Also why would you want 2 different GPUs?

Not sure if you skipped some words.
What I meant is that there are
-few 40" monitors.
-very few FreeSync TVs yet

And that a 40" TV will generally be cheaper.
Getting a 40" 4K screen <500€ isn't a problem.

Basically IPS = better colours.

Also I didn't mean there's no 27" 1440p monitor <350€.
There are plenty, even with IPS. Or with FreeSync. Just not both.
144Hz + FreeSync would cost you 450€. Add IPS and we're at 600€. That's why I told you to prioritize.

What I'm trying to say is 27" 1440p IPS <350€ is no problem at all.
1440p IPS and FreeSync (60Hz, not 144Hz) I couldn't find, but there's a 4K IPS with FreeSync for 450€.

To summarize the options:
1. 27" 1440p IPS <350€ and a 40" 4K TV <500€, neither with FreeSync.
2. 27" 4K IPS with FreeSync for ~450€ and a 4K TV for <400€.
Or just one of them obviously. But that's what you could get if you max out the budget that you gave me for both monitors.

I haven't looked up Danish prices yet, it would be best if you could find (a) shop(s) that you'll be buying from or a price comparision site. I'll use German prices to get a rough estimate. If those turn out to be significantly cheaper than the Danish ones you could always just have it shipped from Germany. Praise the EU I guess.

CPU: i5-6600 ~215€
Mobo: ASRock B150M Pro4S or Gigabyte GA-B150M-D3H whichever is cheaper. 60-70€
RAM: 2x 8GB 2133 or 2400MHz, CL15 or lower. ~60€
SSD: Samsung 850 Evo 250GB ~90€
HDD: Seagate Barracuda / Desktop HDD or Toshiba P300 / DT01ACA (64MB cache version) 1TB ~ 50€
GPU: RX 480 either Powercolor Red Devil or MSI Gaming X ~300€
Case: Cooler Master N200 ~45€
PSU: Corsair CX450M ~50€

total: ~880€

Went with 16GB RAM even if you probably won't need it any time soon. even with those 30€ extra we're still far below the budget.
Obviously lots of upgrades would be possible. Bigger SSD/HDD if you think you'd need it.
Or a better GPU. I mean 60fps on 1440p shouldn't be a problem but if you decide to go with the 4K 27" monitor it's probably not going to cut it.

Ok there will be no FreeSync for the 40" monitor and it'll probably end up being an actual TV. Most TVs don't support FreeSync yet and monitors that size are too expensive.

I also forgot to ask about IPS.

SetsulThe 3 things you said yes to all must haves or just "I'll take it if it's available"?

I'm assuming 27" >=1440p is fixed.
That leaves us with:
1. 120/144Hz.
2. Lightboost (most of them will be 120/144Hz)
3. G-Sync/FreeSync
4. IPS

Combination of 1 and 2 should be easy, the other ones not so much. You will not be able to get all at 350€.
Try to rank them.
