#2043 PC Build Thread in Hardware

I like it when my predictions are correct.
Saved you 5€, not a whole lot, but 5€ are 5€.

Have fun with the build!

Looks good.
Worst case if the 7700 takes too long to get cheaper you can still get the 6700K.

As for the case: Fractal Design Core 1100 or Cooler Master N200 or something like that?

#2041
Show me how you're getting at least a 480 on that budget.
I don't think the 6$ for Dual Channel will break your budget.
Cheaping out on the mobo is your choice, it's not like it's important or anything.

The case is just a suggestion, but unless your inches are significantly smaller than the inches everyone else uses it would fit.

See #2032.
550W is plenty.

What do you mean with "the full 4.4"?

Any reason for that i7?
Are you going to overclock?

#2034
I assume the budget is 550$?

1. Should be lower once it's in stock.

Intel is just now shipping out the 7700 so it can not be in stock yet. Check again on the 11th.

You are forgetting about Turbo Boost.
1 core turbo is 4.2 for the 6700K and the 7700.
2 core turbo is 4.0 for the 6700K and 4.1 for the 7700.
4 core turbo is 4.0 for the 6700K and the 7700.

So if you don't want to overclock once it's at 330 the 7700 is better.

That RAM doesn't fit. SO-DIMM 260-pin is for laptops, you need DIMM-288 pin.

The PSU is good.

#54 Is it possible/worth it to upgrade my PC? in Hardware

You still need to type in the command to run after afuwinx64.exe.
So the command that the batch file should execute is
afuwinx64.exe ..\ROM\P03-A3.ROM /p /b /n /r

If you get the "ROM ID does not match BIOS ID" error and you are absolutely sure you told me the right model number, otherwise it won't work and might break something, then you can run
afuwinx64.exe ..\ROM\P03-A3.ROM /p /b /n /r /x

It's all both in the readme file and the tomshardware thread.

2. http://www.taocomputer.eu/shop2007/scheda.asp?id=33597
3. 480 is good.
4. Yes it is. Toshiba P300 with 64MB is somewhere between the WD Blue and Seagate Barracuda, so if it's cheaper you could get that.
5. Not sure, haven't found anything good at a reasonable price in that shop yet, might have to look on amazon.
6. Why wouldn't you? People have played on worse monitors for years because better monitors didn't exist. As long as it's actually 6ms and not just marketing bullshit.

#2031
Do the math or use a PSU calculator.

You won't get the 7700K to 200W either.

Z170-A vs Z170 Pro4
The ASUS got:
one more PCIe x16 slot (running at x8)
one more PCI slot
one less SATA Express slot
two more external USB 3.1 ports (one type C, one type A)
two more internal USB 3.1 ports
four less external USB 3.0 ports
two more external USB 2.0 ports

So basically the Z170-A got 4 different types of external USB ports on the back, including USB 2.0 for whatever reason and the Z170 Pro4 got only USB 3.0 and USB 3.1, all type A connectors. Definitely worth 50$, don't you think?

ASROCK Z97M WS
MSI Z97M Gaming
ASRock Z87M OC Formula
and maybe a few more.

Glad we got that sorted out.

Diagnostic LEDs are less a matter of form factor, more a matter of price.

Yes, if you want to overclock a Z97M Pro4 would be good.

#2023
Yes, I understand, but what about an Office Suite that doesn't cost 120$? Spending more than a third of your budget on software seems slightly excessive when there's free alternatives for both.

#2024
Overclocking isn't happening on that budget anyway.

#2025
1. If you have to ask that, then you probably don't need it. I wouldn't recommend it for a first time builder if you don't need it and it's not really worth it right now anyway.
2. If you have to ask that, then you probably don't need it. I mean if you can't imagine how you'd fill 250GB with programs (data = pictures, videos etc don't need to be on an SSD) then 500GB are definitely not necessary.
3. No overclocking -> no K CPU and no Z mobo necessary, saves some money. Assuming you'll use windows 10 you should get an i7-7700 (just now released). A better GPU would be nice.
4. 32GB would be the next logical upgrade, not 64GB.
1x16GB = single channel = half the bandwidth = not good if you need bandwidth.
2x8GB = 2/4 slots used = adding 2x16GB gets you 48GB max

How many cores are you allowed to use with STAR-CCM+? It's dictated by the license. I'm not entirely sure how they count Hyperthreading.

When are you goint to build it?
If you are able to use a lot of cores Zen might be interesting, but right now it is expected to be released in March.

turgaidso i'll need ur help and advices so i can build a good pc and not a creepy one.

All my suggestions will make your build look non-threatening.

#2026
The V300 is the SSD antichrist.
250GB isn't much more expensive than 120GB and a lot of SSDs aren't even available in 120GB anymore, so let's go with that.
The Samsung 850 Evo would be the usual recommendation, but the Hynix SL308 is not much slower and quite a bit cheaper right now.

A less expensive mobo should be fine, unless there are some specific high end features you need.
Similar situation with the cooler, I don't think you'll hit a point where a D14 or even something cheaper than that wouldn't be sufficient unless you want to overclock it really high. And then you'll be thermally limited in the same way every Desktop Intel CPU has been since Ivy Bridge. A decent cooler for just 40$ can deal with the 150W easily and even a 100$ cooler might only get you 3°C less. That's not really going to make a difference. Where the big coolers shine is >200W and Kaby Lake can't hit that on safe voltages. If you do delid it then those 10-20°C less are going to make if fairly easy even on just a midrange cooler.
Faster RAM doesn't do all that much, but if you must: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/Yb8H99/gskill-memory-f43000c15d16grk
Even an overclocked 1070 draws <200W so let's scale back the PSU a bit.

#20 looking to upgrade pc - gfx card problem? in Hardware

#18
Well as it turns out there's a tiny, but kind of important difference between the two.
You know, buying a non-Z mobo kind of blocks overclocking on the 6600K and turns it into a waste of money. And buying a Z mobo and a 6500/6600 kind of makes its overclocking function a bit useless, don't you think?

And maybe, just maybe, there was a chance that you might have been able to afford a 7600K instead, which is clocked 300 MHz higher. I know it's more expensive, but I thought you might be able to stretch your budget and get a 243$ CPU instead of a 242$ CPU.

6500 or 6600 or 6600K? There is no 6500K.

Picture of the socket?
You need standoffs for all mounting holes on the mobo or it might touch the tray, short out and refuse to boot. Are we talking about the same kind of standoffs?

What pin on the mobo is bent? Or are you still refering to the socket?

Which pin is bent? Mobo looks fine. Mobo standoffs are instaled? But which pin is bent on the CPU/socket?

Shounicso I can have 64 gbs of RAM, which I've already boughtShounicWhat do you mean by that? I bought the RAM on sale as 4x8.

I hate to break this to you, but 4x8GB equals 32GB.
It's always going to be 32GB, regardless of which mobo you put it in.
