#8 No smoke on rockets? in TF2 General Discussion
_KermitJarateKingAny mods? sv_pure of the server you're on?
aieraCan you help all of us remove it?Wouldn't be OP's issue (probably), but transparent viewmodels without one of the console commands changed will also cause particle effects (like rocket trails) to go transparent like the viewmodels. Would change every particle afaik, so you probably wouldn't want to fully hide them all, but you could go semi-transparent for more visibility.

Modding the rocket trail pcf file would be able to fully hide just the rocket trail, but I'm not sure if it'd work in sv_pure. It might be possible, but some pcf's let you remove particles in sv_pure and some don't for some reason. I'll test it out but I can't promise results.

Would this work for removing unusual effects?

Old unusual effects do work through the pcf method, because the item_fx.pcf they're in is one of the ones that leaks into sv_pure. There's a link to one to remove unusual effects on the nohats thread even that works in sv_pure (pretty sure it's not up to date with new effects but still). New effects are in different pcf's which I haven't tried out, but may or may not work in sv_pure unlike old effects which guaranteed do get disabled in sv_pure.

And pretty sure the transparent viewmodels way would work, but again, to keep important info (medigun beams, overhealed people, etc) you should probably only make them semi-transparent like the transparent viewmodels currently are.

#3166 HUD editing: short questions, quick answers in Customization
biskuitShpeeismeYeah I mean the icons. The only thing that has to do with them in scoreboard.res is nemesis_width. It's in 15 by default but when I change it to 4 it's just thinner and when I change it to anything below 4 the width changes every time I press tab. So sometimes it's huge and sometimes it's tiny...
I assume I need to edit a different value but idk which one.
This is the only way to "hide" the domination elements from the scoreboard.
Works on every 16:9 resolution I think, not sure about 4:3.
Basically, it makes the domination elements tiny (width 4 on nemesis_width) and then creates a bar for each team that stays on top of the domination icons. More details about how to install this on your custom HUD on the .zip.

If you added a refract material instead of a teamcolored imagepanel, and then over that refract re-add the background color and line up at the top, you could get it looking pretty seamless.
No docs on refract materials but if you take them out from a hud that has them and add the necessary commands to a cfg (the ones in the transparent viewmodels thread / most huds that use refracts) it's a pretty straightforward process.

#81 WoolenHUD by blungo in Customization
Blungoim sorry that i struggle with huds and im not a natural hud god like you lmao.

No one is. There isn't a single person in the community who's "a natural" at huds. Everyone who made any decent hud did so through their attitude, their willingness to improve, and their dedication. And playing the victim, when this is your sign that if you want to be a hud dev you have things to work on, shows that you're lacking in all three. This isn't picking on you or anything, this is just the fact. Like you say, your attitude is indeed shit, but it's not because you can't take insults, it's because you're settling with doing things in an insult-worthy way and not seeing the problem.

Again though, we get it if you never intended this thread to be made and your hud released. But you're presenting it like you could've made it and continuing to post updates on it and treat it like a proper release thread. So naturally, people will respond to it as if it were a proper release thread too. You're acting like it's a full hud and shrugging off issues when other people also treat it like one.

Good on ya for trying to sort it out but you really do have to figure out for yourself; do you want to be a full hud dev, or do you want to use a hud mod? Because right now you're acting like each one half of the time, in the worst combination. I hope to see good things from you in the future, but it's all on you to make them.

#68 WoolenHUD by blungo in Customization

8 of the last 9 posts are you blungo (e: 8/10 ninja'd). You can edit and put em all into one comment. You didn't even say anything meaningful in half of them, and instead decided to shittalk proven and respected members of the community (and also when in the time it took you to make those posts, you could've just solved the issue).

We get that you didn't intend to get this hud released and you only meant for it to be a little hobby thing. But at the same time you're continuing to post updates to this thread, when it should've been in the hud mods thread in the first place, and turning hostile when someone gives you criticism.

And no, quite frankly you don't have a good reason not to fix it. You can get rid of everything minmode in less than a minute; drag your hud folder over onto an open window of notepad++, ctrl+h, and replace all instances of "_minmode" with "_notminmode" or something. It's a very easy fix, and even though as a hud mod you shouldn't need to, if you're going to be treating it like you are as a full hud and it's an issue that's been brought up to you, you absolutely should. You need to make a choice if you want to put a minimal effort into polishing and providing a functional product, otherwise you shouldn't release it for other people.

#4948 Show your HUD modifications! in Customization
nimtrano idea how to make the selection thing go under the text as of right now.

You could have the text be a part of the imagebutton, above the subimage.
Or have the normal image be the text and set the armed image to be the text + bg.

nimtrathinking of just removing the character image

If you want it to fit a bit more, you could cut the image border into a top and bottom half, and have the bottom overlap and hide the class image bottom cutoff. Might need to use refracts to make it work perfectly but it'd be an improvement imo.

#13 Removing the sniper scope with HUD files in Customization
z3n1th_SCI mean, starkie, there have been many different versions of ways to disable this. The problem is, most (at least the ones I have seen) have either been banned by leagues or patched by Valve.

There's at least 3 methods (1 more untested but might work). 1 got patched indirectly and only works in sv_pure 0, the one on this thread got patched for a grand total of less than three hours, and the last confirmed method is untouched. All of this would be easily fixable if valve just disconnected the scope from the hud like they should've done in the first place though, since only the patched-in-sv_pure one isn't based on hud magic.

Leagues don't care about the method used, but because all the methods that work are based around hudfiles, afaik they have to rely on fishy shots (or being dumb and streaming it) and can't detect anything for sure. Don't quote me on that though and if the league bans it, don't use it.

#6 Removing the sniper scope with HUD files in Customization

You don't need sv_cheats to do it. That was an old method back when I first released it, and you could remove the scope while at the main menu, but has since stopped working.

Just run the animation from inside the damageplayer event. Or, better yet, inside the menuopen event and put "voice_menu_1;slot10" inside your sniper config.

It is banned in a few leagues though so be warned.
And no, dx9 is not needed for it. It would be if this worked through refracts, but this specific method is through hud animations which don't depend on dxlevel.

Starkiei dunno how this went under my radar when its such a big deal
are many people actually using it?

Valve patched it once and people just sorta forgot / didn't read the thread when version 2 came out.

#8 How to prepare for an college philosophy course in Off Topic

In my experience, there's two main types of professors. Some will want deep insight that can be partly their students' own ideas mixed in as long as it shows philosophical thinking, and some will want the insight to be solely on what's studied and only directly answer questions without going off in any unwarranted directions. It's pretty useful to find out which one your professor would be as soon as you can, because one's excellent paper would be terrible for the other. That's not really something you can prepare for, but it's a tip that would've saved me a lot of trouble.

You shouldn't really worry about it though. If you've already become aware of and acquainted with some figures and ideas in philosophy, you'll be at a head start compared to a lot of people taking an introductory course.

custom rainmeter skins + taskbar eliminator + windows desktop slideshow
middle thing you'd type commands into like http://i.imgur.com/cdYhp47.png
now if only I studied for exams instead of working on this :B
need those rainmeter skins, taskbar eliminator and the middle thing please
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qg9slf3d0inremg/jarkin%27s%20rainmeter.zip?dl=1
I don't really know how to set skins up for the autoinstaller but here's the three used
As I put in the readme, it's for 1366x768 (think it only matters for one thing but still) and only has some basic commands for the middle thing included, but it's pretty easy to add more commands.

This is the taskbar eliminator I use, can't seem to find where I downloaded it from though so here's a dropbox link for it too. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1pgoiwwdz0ty750/Nobar.exe?dl=1

thanks. how do i come back with the taskbar when i want though? thing just disappeared, not even a guide, just an .exe and bam! gone.

Run it a second time. Not sure but I think task manager force closing it + running something fullscreen (not windowed borderless) for a little bit also would bring it back.
