I have some really weird issues with setting the resolution on various games and changing graphical settings if I've got the mumble overlay enabled, other than that it's fine.

Navigation of the new UI with a mouse is bad. Not terrible when you get used to it, but definitely not optimal. There are some good speed improvements and cool features added, as well as some missing/hidden functionality. If you don't get it for free from Uni or something then I wouldn't bother (I have a copy and haven't even installed it - my roommate did though).
I don't have any problems with it and personally get better performance then 7. Also, The mumble 1.2.4 snapshot apparently fixes overlay.
I've been using it on my desktop for about 2 weeks. In my opinion the new UI is terrible, it made using my computer unpleasant. I bought a program called start8 that basically makes the UI windows 7. Like this it is good, windows 7 with some improvements more or less. With that said the driver and application support isn't entirely here yet, so I'm recommending that people wait a little bit for better support to come.
You can't disable Aero now, which means that if you have an AMD video card you can't turn off vsync without third party tools (which are banned in ESEA, or at least ATI Tray Tools is).
Hell, does turning off vsync via the driver software even still work? I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.

it works fine with OBS, no problems whatsoever when I tried it.

What #6 said. Would wait a little while, because I think 7 is a safer bet for now.
Has anyone tried this with the ESEA client? When i originally built my new PC last december I was trying to use the Windows 8 release from microsoft at the time, and everything worked fine as far as TF2 and steam and drivers and stuff but when i actually tried to play a match the ESEA client would not work properly on the OS. In the end I had to install windows 7 to get it to work. Can anyone confirm that the client works on Windows 8?
At what point did it stop working for you? All I've done so far is spectate a match via the client, but that worked fine.
I have no problems with it at all. I like the UI as well. When you pull up metro (there is no search bar) you can just start typing and it'll find whatever you want. You don't need to click and scroll through etc.
It's also significantly faster than win7.
Win7 is still better, but win8 is just fine.

I like Windows 8 more.
Task manager alone makes it worth it.

Thank you, I finally have my overlay back after a long ass time
Using at work and I fucking hate it. I daresay it'd be even more of a nightmare to use on my home pc for games :/
Horrendous interface. It is basically windows 7 with a tablet UI. No reason to switch unless you use a drawing tablet for most of your desktop work.
