But just to put it into perspective, you might find a lot of older people don't want to play with you not because of your voice but because the age gap means there is a different level in maturity or interests. For instance I am in my 20's, I was born in 1990 so it would be harder for someone of my age to relate to a 13 year old these days, since we would have different humour.

Yeah its ok even if you are 13. One thing, watch a lot of POVs of good comp players that might help you out a lot to start off :)

100% correct, but on the other hand I played with a team for a 3-4 months, really loved playing with them, played other games together and hung out in mumble a lot, and got to know them fairly well before realizing that they were almost a decade younger than me. I've also met people my age who are incredibly immature and not fun to be around, so as long as you keep that in mind I think age won't be a huge issue.

A lot of people are posting in this thread saying that it's completely fine to play at a young age and to not worry about people laughing at you. They are right. I know a ton of kids who I've played with who are great fun and are cool to hang around with. It's hard to play comp when you don't have control of your schedule. When I was younger, my parents would randomly take my sister and I out to dinner or something, and I wouldn't be able to make raid times in WoW.
Once I went away to college and was independent I was finally able to make time for comp TF2.

I think TF2 is really good in this sense though. I know that the only reason I got into comp TF2 over CS originally was I could play a lobby or a mix only committing 30-45 minutes instead of 90 minutes.
