I just clicked to pay my open league fees, open is 10$ now? when did that happen? I swear it was 7.95$ or something like that. Is esea equalizing the league fees across divisions now? Please educate me, I think I'm out of the loop. 8(

"ESEA Open fees are 7.95 this season" - Killing, Fully Charged 38

But yeah I've paid for myself and another at 9.95 and have receipts to back it up.

ESEA says league fees go directly to the pot. If there was a $2 dollar increase, shouldn't we see this direct increase in tf2 prize money?

Yeah personally 2 bucks per isn't a huge deal for me, but someone pointed it out and I figured I could at least say he's not wrong.

It is worth to note that the Open fee is the same for LoL Open, CS:GO Open, CS:S Open, CS Open and TF2 NA and EU Open. (At least I think so). These would explain why the fee might have changed without Killing knowing. Why it changed is still weird.

Do they? I think they are at least in part used to pay for servers and stuff.

Yeah the revenue model for esea, to my understanding is:

League fees + sponsors = Prize pools

Premium + sponsors = servers, admins, website, news posts, client development, and advertising.

I find it odd that they are advertising the same amount of prize money from last season, yet increased open league fee by two dollars. Seems kind of fishy.

Season 14: Increased overall prize pot from $83,210 to $90,000+
http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=esports&d=comments&id=12588

Season 15: Increased overall prize pot to $90,000+
http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=esports&d=comments&id=13006

I realize its only two dollars, but I always really appreciated the fact that league fee was added directly to the prize pot. Not sure if this is the case anymore.

Didn't last season's pot get increased via the bitcoin scandal?

Partially, but even without that, it will vary from season to season. S12 was advertised as 90k+ and S13 100k+, so who knows I guess. I'm probably just reading too far into it/ expect to get taken advantage of again due to bitcoin feelings.

not sure why the minus frags - buckweet is stating legitimate points with legitimate, cited information. I'm curious about this as well.

After asking around, intermediate league fee last season was $12. This season it's $14 so it appears the two dollar league fee increase is for every division.

its not a public company they don't have to be transparent about this kind of stuff
they probably should be from a PR/customer service standpoint but they have no obligation to be

They're still the same people who pulled the bitcoin crap, so there's no reason for ESEA scams to stop happening. Rapists don't stop raping, scammers don't stop scamming.

Well actually ESEA is adjusting for deflation since the price of a server and mumble is so cheap anymore because the locked tick rate. The first few seasons, the price of a 500FPS NFO server was something like 35 bucks a month

I'm sorry for being uneducated on this subject since I've never played in esea but are those 9.95$ for a month or for the whole season?

per season you make two different types of payments for esea.

1 is a one time league fee that you pay per season per division (so a guy who starts out in open pays 9$, but if he gets picked up by an IM team he has to pay the 20$ fee)

Then there's the 6-7$ you pay monthly to ESEA in the form of premium (invite players do not have to pay).
