I can't be the only one that thinks that seasons should be shorter. It seems like this recommendation has never been polled once and long seasons are the main reason that people don't play imo. Last season was probably the most scuffed season for invite and div-1 had to be created because so many people didnt want to commit to an advanced season.
Can we please just get a season that is 4-6 weeks long with a shorter playoff series.

this is what we tried to do a couple seasons ago and it ended up leading to the weird stage format we're using in invite right now.
I think going shorter to 6 weeks would be pretty sweet

They just need to remove those first two weeks (as they call it "Stage 1") of zero-stakes bo1 matches. And perhaps make Stage 2 bo2s instead of bo3s.

I've heard that RGL won't do cups because cup signups have historically been poor over time and it's harder to charge league fees for cups, I've also heard that financially RGL is relying on league fees to fund a few plans and other costs of running the league. I saw that Fireside Casts created an open-source financials release for the year, which made it extremely transparent about costs and what was being done to raise funds. They even included payouts to their staff with the extra funds and were open in posting that they do want to pay their staff if they can for their time.

RGL says all funds are for the league and LANs, but how can I be sure of that? RGL isn't a nonprofit. it's an LLC. None of the financials are shared with the community. While I'm sure a lot of people won't fully understand all the costs that are required to run a league, they also won't understand if you never actually share that information. in my opinion, RGL could charge good amounts for individual cups and justify it by posting their financials publicly. the only reason people would be outraged is if the funds were being used poorly.

Especially in higher divs with fewer teams, is it a problem to just poll (potentially in-the-div) TLs and ask:
What season length would your team prefer?
- 8 wks
- 6 weeks and our team will not/can not play if it's 8 weeks
- 6 weeks but we'll play 8 weeks if that's what it ends up being the decision
and then just see where the div lies?
If adv will be a small number of teams for an 8 week season, but more teams are willing to commit for 6 weeks and you get a stronger/more full div, I think that's preferable? I doubt teams would say "we won't play 6 weeks, only 8 weeks!"
Lower divisions have had strong seasons with good number of teams, so you don't have to change it everywhere. I don't see a problem with divisions being slightly different lengths based on what the people in that division want-- this is already done for the map pool in adv/inv

I think we actually did poll invite at the time and the majority said that they didn't want a shorter season. I wonder if everyone still feels the same now.
either way we probably need to do a little bit of tweaking to the format

Hi please fill out the survey where we ask this exact question https://rgl.gg/Players/My/Survey?r=40&s=86
(also asks about 2 seasons instead of 3)
We are very open to feedback but don't get much, highly encourage y'all to fill out the survey, use ?feedback in the RGL discord, or post in your TL channel

Yeah, I totally get that, especially when I was into S8 with my friends from Mexfrag. I had two months break from university, but when the school break ended, that happened to be my last semester before grabbing my bachelor's degree. I was juggling playoffs and studying like crazy while my buddies were all tied up with work, classes, and whatnot
Honestly, those seasons drag on for so long, you have regular season plus playoffs, and the commitment is massive. I mean, everyone's got their daily hustle, right? So, thinking about it, when you dive into a season in IM+, you're signing up for two matches a week plus all the practice and scrimming. It's no walk in the park for a lot of folks

What I was clearly talking about is something that has been talked about by others in a way for cups to replace real seasons in the 6v6 format. Personally I'd rather play seasons than cups but there seems to be a big sentiment held by players who wish to lower time commitment. Won't ask how you ignored my notes about RGL's financials, or didn't deny that you are keeping seasons going for that reason.

not everyone wants cups to replace seasons, but I think a lot more people agree that 8 weeks regular season + playoffs sometimes going for over a month drags on

Minor note but if the survey had "other (please specify)" as options for some of these questions it would be good, for example about class restrictions it may not be straightforward as "too lax" or "too tight" (or maybe just add "restrictions were inconsistent", which has been a common complaint and inherent problem with strict restrictions--it's super difficult to be objective about)

i think releasing pugs should be RGLs #1 priority, not changing the season structure atm.

would be nice to have a survey format thats a little wider than just having played enough matches on the past season because it kind of just filters out many of the people who were too busy to play the status quo season format or just people that didnt pay that still have important feedback there
makes sense to only let the players answer the specific questions that only pertain to their experience in that season but for more general "should rgl do x" stuff many more people could have some input
also while im here i just have to bring up the projectile blocked by players plugin because to my understanding 6s and highlander players were polled together? i see no reason why the plugin should be standard between the formats when there seems to be a pretty big divide in what each community wants for themselves
