Saw this on reddit, thought it was pretty cool.
Yesterday tf2 hit it's most players EVER. Show Content
(since 2012, i lied)
https://steamdb.info/app/440/graphs/
(and we're on the way to beating that again today)
7+ years after release and it is still growing. The best part of this, is that a percentage of those 100K players will trickle into competitive tf2 as they play the game and try to challenge themselves.
Of course this is also a massive spike from the spooky halloween stuff, but really if it gets a few more people interested in 6s or HL thats incredible.

It's an even bigger accomplishment when you consider the fact that idling is dead(or maybe there are ways to get around it?)

MGFreewhen you consider the fact that idling is dead(or maybe there are ways to get around it?)
There's ways around it but it's no longer as common. So this peak has more real players than the last peak.

Good to see that this game still growing up after 7 years. We literally have the most beautiful and friendly community. Much of a pride to be a part of it.

Well since it's a Halloween, Spell farming is now a thing (Gift farming servers), you don't need to accept items from Halloween gifts to continue receiving them.
Comp. Tf2 will probably start growing after Saloon.tf is released, since Tf2 is dominated by Pubbers and Traders, influencing Traders with Saloon.tf will bring their attention to competitive Tf2 and will force them to study teams (for winning more bets) and a chance of them transfering to Competitive as well. Influencing Pubbers with Competitive would be harder tho. This is all in theory btw

Keep in mind that a lot of old numbers are skewed by idlers, so this is actually more impressive comparatively than you might first think

This might have something to do with Markiplier streaming tf2 a couple days ago? There were like 14k people watching his stream.

Upsetting to know a large majority of these players just joined up for their Halloween items :(. Not to mention the countless alt accounts 'gift farming'.

Unfortunately TF2 might be harder to pick up than other games like CS:GO, but we'll see, maybe bounce rate won't be that high.

There were 101,741 people playing this game at once. Since I am on a top 5 European team this means in Europe I am one of 10 best scouts playing out of that 101,741 at the moment. I can finally say that I am good at something.

Does the chart not show earlier dates than a year? When I try to change it to around the launch date, enter key or mouse click doesn't work.

I don't think they recorded any of this until 2012.
