ETF2L North American Division

After the events of the last few days, and the new league that has been created by Nahanni and CEVO, ETF2L has decided to withdraw it's NA Division, in order for the NA community to fully commit to CEVO and make it as big as of a success as possible. We're a community based league, and the TF2 community is our #1 priority, splitting it up would do more harm than good.

I've heard a few people mention how they didn't like ETF2L instantly coming over to NA 'when it doesn't involve them' and trying to 'steal all the playerbase'. I'd just like to remind everyone that ETF2L is a non-profit community run league, and the reason I offered it to the NA community is because you were not happy with ESEA, and I personally saw ETF2L as the best alternative for you at the time. I didn't come over to try and take all of your money and make me rich.

CEVO working with Nahanni is a great oppotunity as a replacement for ESEA, and I urge you all to give it the support it deserves in order to make it great.

Cheers!

We had that server for show matches, but I believe we can scale it so we can cover all NA regions.

Another good potential alternative. I think I'd still prefer CEVO to this because I don't want to learn a different playstyle to fit the ruleset, plus the two maps, 1 match per week thing really sucks in my eyes.

That said, I'm up for trying anything at this point. I think we as a community just need to make a decision and stick with it, to try and develop it.

I'm pretty sure you can organize more than 1 match every week if that is your thing..

I'm in if you make a noob division, As long as you don't put matches on Wednesday. It would be cool to have 2-3 matches a week

It's more the "two maps per week" thing that I dislike.

Maybe it's just because i'm still really bad at this game but focusing on one map per week is enough. Trying to prep as a team for two per week would just be too much. I've heard from some EU players that they just prep the map they think they'll be better at and toss the other one out essentially.

Permzilla4) Rulesets - We would be using the same ruleset for both reigons, which would mean getting used to the EU ruleset. There are also significantly less unlocks ( at the moment ;) )

please no it will only make "troll" mixes more common
annoying pyros is enough

We give teams their fixtures at the beginning of a season, one week before the match we check all the matches where teams haven't agreed on a date and set the date to one that suits both teams. For most teams that's around friday ~ sunday

I'd make a joke about German overlords and ETF2L admins but there isn't anything I can think of right now :(

Edit: I can feel something coming on about sonny black joining ESEA

fair enough, still seems like a lot tho.

for those who ahve been playing with their team for a long time it's easier, i'm sure. I know all the maps in esea pretty well on a personal level, but it's still a struggle to mesh everyone on my team together in just a week of scrims/review. I dunno, maybe it's different for those playing at a higher level. Does anyone in lower divs have any thoughts?

While I fully support the idea of making a NA etf2l and possibly making etf2l a world league I think it would be better to discuss all the solutions available to us. From CEVO, to ugc, etf2l, igl, or even a tf.tv league or a new community league there are plenty options available and it wouldn't be very smart to split such a small community much.

I agree with owl, I'm fine with ETF2L whitelist and ruleset overall but I don't think a low div teams could handle 2 maps a week and have fun with it. It's hard to figure out your role in a map when you're a new player imo.

Other than that, if there are no league fees and no prizes, I guess CEVO would be a better option right now, since they have no fees and prizes, and they also already have the servers and the interest.

It actually isn't, you just play both weeks maps in every scrim. I get that you think it's a lot but in practice it really isn't.

Well the europeans are all better at TF2 than NA players and they handle 2 maps a week in div 6 but I don't think the skill gap is that big.

I'm personally in favor of this solution, but everyone needs to agree. we need to have a poll or something about this and get the support of some good players to the new solution. If the Mix^s and iTs are there, everyone else will follow.

But I don't have much experience in competitive so a lower division would be really great.

so a scrim for you is about an hour, then? how many scrims do lower div teams play per night/how many nights per week? At this point i'm more just interested in the workings of the lower div teams. My team is probably more dedicated than 95% of open teams and I still think we'd struggle with two maps per week. How much time in a particular week would you say that you spend on each map? Between scrims, demo review, etc?

perm, get in talk with the high level NA players to find out if they'd support it, that's what it needs

also, it might finally liven up the etf2l forums

But what about VAC Bans in other games?
I think we all know ESEA's stance for those...
