#1 TF2 Blog: "Insomnia61" in TF2 General Discussion

http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=31956

TF TeamMultiplay’s Insomnia Gaming Festival is traditionally one of the most prominent events in the TF2 esport calendar. i61 is no exception with the Team Fortress 2 Open featuring extraordinary players fighting for a share of the largest prize pool in TF2 this year.

Coverage of Insomnia 61 at the NEC in Birmingham, England spans August 25th - 28th. Three solid days of action cumulate in the two best teams of the event stepping up to the main stage to fight for the right to take home a big cardboard cheque.

If you can’t attend in person, you can watch all the action live on Twitch at Essentials.TF offering an exceptional and worldly lineup of shoutcasters and analysts.

#1 TF2 Blog: "Team Fortress Turns 21" in TF2 General Discussion

http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=31954

TF TeamTeam Fortress turns twenty-one years old today, which is a pretty big milestone. We can now legally drink, join the army, gamble at casinos, get a driver's license, obtain a concealed weapons permit, and go to the bathroom in pretty much any state you want to name. But all that's small stupid potatoes compared to a little loophole we uncovered: When you're 21, you can adopt a baby in Colorado, Delaware, and Oklahoma.

https://steamcdn-a.akamaihd.net/steam/news/31954/team_crabwalk_rocketjump_fortress.jpg?t=1496190709

...continued because TFTV's forum doesn't like images inside of quotesSay hello to Team Crabwalk Rocketjump Fortress from Colorado! She's pretty small, so we had to get her a couple of books to sit on to reach the keyboard. So far all she does is poop, cry and code, which is making the other TF2 team members jealous, because up until now that's mostly been their job. Welcome to the free market, boyos.

#1 TF2 Blog: "Upcoming Changes to the Case System" in TF2 General Discussion

http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=31834

TF TeamWe've been working on ways to improve our case system and want to share some changes that are coming with the Pyro update. Our two primary goals are to simplify the case-opening process, so it's easy to determine the specific content (unusuals, bonus drops, etc.) that come out of cases, and to add more value to the player each time a case is opened. Crates will not be affected by these changes.

- These changes will be applied to all existing cases released from the Gun Mettle Update forward (and to all subsequent case releases).

- Cases will share a list of effects for the Unusual items received from the cases. Specialty cases that have community-created Unusual effects will continue to have those community effects but will also use the shared list of effects when determining which effect to grant for an Unusual item. For example, if you open the Quarantined Collection Case or the Confidential Collection Case from the Invasion update and receive an Unusual item, the effect for the item will be picked from the combined Invasion-themed Unusual effects list and the shared list of Unusual effects that all cases share. Weapon cases and cosmetic cases will have separate lists for Unusual effects, but will operate under the same system.

- All cases will have a chance to receive bonus drops when opened. Bonus drops will come from a shared list that all cases use. All cases will use the same bonus chances to determine if bonus drops are received. For example, a bonus drop item might be a taunt Unusualifier.

- The shared lists of Unusual effects and bonus drops will be cycled periodically to change the combinations of items being received. This may include special limited-time versions of the shared lists for holiday events.

- We're also working to improve case descriptions so it's easier to determine exactly what can be received by opening a case (Strange items, Unusual items with which effects, bonus drops, etc.).

We don't have a date for the Pyro update that we can share yet, but we're working to finish it as soon as possible. If you have feedback about the case changes or anything else you'd like to share with the TF2 team, send it to us using the Contact Form on the right taskbar (under "Contact Us").

Quick note about the Balance Changes blog post: We've had lots of great feedback from the community about the changes and we really appreciate it. Thanks!

#1 CS:GO update for 8/17/17 (8/18/17 UTC, 1.35.9.9) in CSGO General Discussion

Via the CS:GO blog:

ValveReleasing 1.35.9.8-rc1 update
[GAMEPLAY]
– Shipping more changes to pistols with the goal of emphasizing skillful use of the weapons.
– Five-SeveN: The Five-SeveN has been adjusted to reward tactical positioning and defensive play.
— Slightly improved accuracy when firing several shots rapidly.
— Substantially reduced accuracy while moving.
[PERFECT WORLD]
– Prime status is now immediately granted to Perfect World accounts with identity verification.
– Enabled support for custom avatars in game.
– Enabled access to the developers console.
[MISC]
– Overhauled internal weapon data representation. (Thanks SlothSquadron and koga0995 for spotting unintended changes)
– Fixed an issue that caused players to not drop their 2nd flashbang if they are killed after throwing 1 flashbang during the round.
– Fixed an issue where sniper bots didn’t like the Scar20 (Thanks BOT Vitaliy!)
– Fixed an issue where buying non-weapon items would restock ammo for all your weapons.
– Fixed some corner cases where buying items via console could ignore the user’s loadout selection.
– Fixed an issue where attempting to drop undroppable items (like grenades) would count the item’s value towards the player’s “donations” for the round.
– Fixed a rare issue that could cause players to show incorrect holstered weapons.
– Fixed an issue where decoy grenades could make sounds from the wrong weapon.
– Fixed “buy” console command to list all options instead of being a hardcoded help string.
– Map editing: env_gunfire entities can now fire all weapon types (e.g. weapon_m4a1_silencer or weapon_revolver)
– Fixed a memory leak related to spectating.
– Adding ability to initiate trades from friend’s context menu.
– Improved map load times in some circumstances.

Rumor has it:

- CS:GO is now free to play in China (when under Perfect World influence) provided you verify your identity, in addition to granting verified users instant Prime access
- Users can still buy a "game license" if they're unable to verify their identity for free-to-play CS:GO and Prime access for 8800 "points" (that 点 symbol isn't the one for Renminbi, as 8800 yuan would be ~$1300 USD)

- Check out /u/SlothSquadron's breakdowns of both the Five-SeveN tweaks as well as a stealth buff of the Tec-9 (the Tec-9 changes appear to have been erroneous)

- Item schema update, featuring that "Game License" item: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/SteamTracking/commit/3290b651655ba42eb9069530ccc1789247aabce2
- Weapon data now lives in the item schema instead of each weapon having its own script file

- All the proof you need is in the GameTracking pudding: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking-CSGO/commit/04f48c109b6fb1addd6bc0d5166a1643d06ba1c3

ValveThe following changes are in the “1.35.9.8-rc1” CS:GO Beta depot.
[GAMEPLAY]

– Five-SeveN: The Five-SeveN has been adjusted to reward tactical positioning and defensive play.

— Substantially reduced accuracy while moving.
[PERFECT WORLD]
* Prime status is now immediately granted to Perfect World accounts with identity verification.
* Enabled support for custom avatars in game.

[MISC]
* Overhauled internal weapon data representation. All weapons are expected to behave identically to 1.35.9.7 aside from the Five-SeveN and bugfixes listed below.
* Fixed an issue that caused players to not drop their 2nd flashbang if they are killed after throwing 1 flashbang during the round.
* Fixed an issue where sniper bots didn’t like the Scar20.
* Fixed an issue where buying non-weapon items would restock ammo for all your weapons.

* Fixed “buy” console command to list all options instead of being a hardcoded help string.

* Fixed a memory leak related to spectating.
* Adding ability to initiate trades from friend’s context menu.
* Improved map load times in some circumstances.

Rumor has it:

- /u/SlothSquadron is working on a breakdown of the Five-SeveN changes

- Wish to opt in? Right-click on CS:GO in your Steam library, go to Properties, go to the Betas tab, then select "1.35.9.8-rc1"
- If you don't see this branch offered, restart Steam
- To opt in for servers: run "app_update 740 -beta 1.35.9.8-rc1" in SteamCMD
- Valve servers will almost definitely be unavailable as has been the case with the last few prerelease tests

- SteamDB GameTracking services will be completely unavailable as it only keeps eyes on the public branch - be aware

– Added support for Wingman game mode on Overpass.
[ SOUND ]
– Upgraded several surface sounds to 16-bit for HRTF support.
[ MISC ]
– Several performance optimizations in sound playback.

Rumor has it:

- The commemorative graffiti is on Inferno in pit, here's the full resolution version

- This graffiti is dedicated to Dosia's grenade toss which lead to the death of two Immortals players as a result of their bomb going off soon afterwards

- A before-and-after of the trophy icon, and translations from Translators Like You - Thank You: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking-CSGO/commit/688c91f5495cce5fd0aab4b31984a3bd3b1ce847

Updated Cache to the latest Steam Workshop version: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/changelog/163589843
[ COMMUNITY SERVERS ]
Added Steam Workshop entries for community servers to run official versions of Canals and Rialto that come included with CS:GO:

Updated the following community weapon finishes with normal maps:
– M4A4 | The Battlestar

– Glock-18 | Wraiths
– Desert Eagle | Directive
– Thanks to Millenia, Primrose!~ and Gaunt.

Rumor has it:

- A recent sync of a Steam Datagram system configuration change removed the ping-only attribute from the new Oklahoma City routing cluster. It'll now be used as a hop along the way to the data center your match is hosted on, as long as it's a better route than going direct to the data center

- Don't mind GameTracking being weird for the first half of this: https://github.com/SteamDatabase/GameTracking-CSGO/commit/70fc992132adc7be89ad5b909b6f513189fd3d09
