#72 TF2 update for 2/14/17 in TF2 General Discussion

I was never able to reproduce this issue to the point where I was wondering if the server/player had bugged out, glad to know its fixed and things will feel more consistent now.

(The secret class selection order they didn't want you to know)

#68 It's about time for a promod in TF2 General Discussion

The gameplay of 6es is fine apart some minor balance changes, if anything a reworked whitelist to get rid of some of the weapons sounds good. Ive always liked the idea of a rollback client but when you think about it who would realistically support the decision since it would bring back security issues that have been patched out.

SnowdreamHere are some examples of things that could change:
  • Weapon balancing via stats rather than whitelisting
  • Class balance, and consequently class limits
  • Optimisation, removal of cosmetics

The problem is that its going to split the community even further, and not just the pub vs comp community but the existing players. Call me crazy but I think 6es is fine as it is, and the things that are in the game - while they could be reworked like this - should be dealt with on a ban/allow case. I like that you can transition from getting good in pubs to beginner level competitive and for those who already play both comp and casual its going to be a pain dealing with 2 different muscle memories for different gamemodes. Perhaps not muscle memory but say if damage or timing stats were modified for weapons.

If the promod client or plugin is solely focused on competitive exclusively, then how do you deal with globalization of said promod and how do you deal with people who play both and will have to play with awkward changes every time. Responsibility, influence and pros vs peoples opinions to mention a few.

As garbage as it sounds with the current dev team, realistically the only idea would be to get tf2 balanced from the core, and not with modded clients or plugins. Im open to anything if ideas are being thrown or projects being worked on but the above concerns are there.

I think 6es is fine but the current whitelist is spaghetti deluxe. Gimmicks and crutches dont belong in competitive, like this for example:

Nub_Danishyou argue that stupid gimmicks need to be removed, but then complain when stuff is dumbed down they're the same thing
rocket jumping could be considered a stupid gimmick, ctapping, bunny hopping its literally just based on your opinion

If we are going to base it on "your opinion" there are many more people who would not play vs pyro than a gunboats soldier. Have you ever played vs an engineer who sits in spawn, repairing his sentry with rescue ranger while a pyro is deflecting incoming spam and at the same time the enemy demoman is spamming the choke with loose cannon? Thats a gimmick for you. If you get killed or stalled by a bombing soldier he earned it, if you get killed or stalled by the composition above youre being gimmick-ed, same with pyro m2 reflect > flare 1shot combos, same with being zoned by a minisentry as a scout, for some examples. I prefer the term crutch but gimmick works too.

I play a fair amount of alternative game modes and the fact that the game is always the same on 6es, offline, pubs, dm, mge, inhouses makes it feel globalized and whatever you do there will work in 6es as well as it will work anywhere else.

#72 TF2 UPDATE FOR 21DEC2016 in TF2 General Discussion

What about the pyro rework? Where is the performance optimization? Absolutely no interesting game changes / balance changes, you still cant queue with more than 6 in casual / join a friends (or a friends groups) game and matchmaking is still a joke.

How can anyone remotely like or respect this update. They spent resources fixing cosmetics, PASS time and pd_watergate ffs. I was looking forward to the dev team somewhat redeeming themselves but this is hot garbage.

I'll organize the photos I took after Dreamhack, its a bit late but they are good memories (such as paulsen cosplaying a "I <3 anime" cat).

#9 TF2 update for 11/14/16 (11/15/16 UTC) in TF2 General Discussion

They basically crashed their own ship with "we need to control the player experience". Its so stupid that you cant join friends midgame, you cant have a larger party than 6, you cant join which team you want to make it more fair, but most importantly the personality completely disappears when you run a matchmaking system.

As for minding the "new" casual system, I like it less than I liked the old casual system and that wasnt great either. There was no need for this in the first place. Its sad that they used this kind of system to deal with the influx of players that were anticipated (and came) from the F2P patch in 2011. What they should have done is dedicated "valve servers" that you can access from the server browser to make sure there are at least some kind of not-modded experience and make sure there is always a leftover of servers for the players.

Obviously I understand the dev teams fear of what if someone joins a modded server or gamemode and get a skewered first impression but come on really? That wasnt a problem back in 2007-2010 where everything was ran by the community.

What pendji said has made me avoid solo pubs completely, I enjoyed it back in 2012-2013 but nowdays it is so life-less. Players have no reason to get to know eachother, no reason to feel that they want to improve or join a "quickplay community" (lol) because in the end it'll only be limited to the system. And the system is so bad it has effectively killed interest in public tf2 for me, personally. There is no fun or excitement in pulling off a master disguise, going for crazy sniper/rocket shots on players or trying ninja engineer shenanigans. 99% of the players are around the skill level where they cant even control their mouse let alone react to something happening 10 meters in front of them. Its like bullying bots.

Playing around a community would give you much more room to receive help, see what other players are doing, have more fun (the game gets more fun the better you get) and get to meet the good and bad guys. Instead of harvesting the future of tf2 pubs, we got quickplay. You reap what you sow.

#30 Is it still worth getting into tf2? in TF2 General Discussion

The best thing you can do as a new player is to get a config for netcode, raw mouseinput, fov, viewmodel fov etc as people here have mentioned, custom huds are also nice, there is a big variety out there.

If you have a good enough processor snd_mixahead 0.05 (or any slightly lower/higher value) makes the game sound more responsive

tf_scoreboard_ping_as_text 1 removes the newly added ping bars and displays ping as text

tf_hud_target_id_disable_floating_health 1 disables the newly added floating health feature. In the end its personal taste but I have not found a single person that wants floating health

If you plan to use ingame voice chat
voice_overdrive 1
snd_ducktovolume 1
^ fixes voice chat making other sound quiet

There are a lot of differences in TF2 and Overwatch but generally speaking tf2 is faster and more technical. If you have any questions or wonder about anything, feel free to ask
