Well, thank god for that. Glad they didn't waste their time with something like the invisible player bug.

GeknaiirWhen is the last day I can purchase a gxl ticket?

I want to go but I don't know if I'm going to be busy during that time.

You can buy them until they sell out. In previous years we would get maybe ~30 players from the comp tf2 scene and sometimes there would still be a few seats left and tickets would be sold at the door. I don't know how many people the GXL is going to hold this time (350, maybe more?) but considering we already have around 100 pre paid players just a couple weeks after registration opened, and there's still 6 months to go... I would play it safe and get a ticket ASAP.

dflameOMG, I'm so fucking pumped. Why can't it just be October already, so many cool people going. Can't wait to meet all of you! <3
thrasherThere has been talk of laser tag. We should make teams and organize a Thursday night laser tag tournament.
Please, someone pick me up for your team!

I'm a hockey player, and I intend to play full contact laser tag. I will go all Liam Neeson on everyone.

#20 cell phones in Off Topic

My last 2 phones have been iPhones. The 3Gs, and now the iPhone 5. As an iPhone user I urge you to stay away. iPhones are great when you jailbreak them, but apple is making it harder and harder to jailbreak. When the iPhone 5 first came out it was running iOS 6 out of the box and it took FOREVER for a jailbreak to arrive. I'm still running iOS 6 because of the stable jailbreak. When I'm eligible for a new phone I'm going with an android, probably the galaxy s5

freakinwilling to donate manpower to help organize draft tournament for friday

A few things to take into consideration if you want to do a draft:

- you will need rcon access to the servers, so get in touch with staff about that ASAP.

- in previous years we would only get like 4 teams for the draft, but considering how big this LAN will be you will likely get a lot more. I would consider a cap on how many teams you allow.

- If you remember what I did with the index cards, that is very important. On my notecards I had the rules printed, along with spaces for players names/handles and the classes they are willing to play. I would see how many players to determine how many teams we would have, them select the medic mains from the cards. I would call up the medics and assign them as captains. I would have all the player cards laid out on a table and shuffle the medic cards and draw them at random to determine the initial picking order. I used an NHL style draft system for picking (1,2,3,4,5,5,4,3,2,1 etc). The cards are also important because you will have a mix of high level players down to casual players who only play pyro or something. Every team would end up with a couple good players and 1-2 casuals which made it fun and unpredictable. Do the cards.

Edit:

Also:

- $5 max buyin per player (only allow them to hand in their draft card with their fee, otherwise you will lose track of who paid)

- buy a little safe and lock it down to the table and keep the prize money safe.

- single elim only (needs to be a fairly short tournament) winner take all.

dashnerIt's set teams I am 100% certain, but there is talk of a draft tournament on Friday night for fun.

I've always run a Friday night draft tournament at GXL and everyone seems to really enjoy them. I don't think nick is gonna have the time tho with how big this LAN is going to be.

#160 NHL playoffs :P in Off Topic
TheFragileSuper-TheFragileerkstonSuper-ok so maybe if mason can recover from his injury the flyers can win but if not oh well dream is dead ripgoaltending was definitely not the reason for the loss
The truth that 99% of Flyers fans don't want to admit for almost 15 years now.
in some situations, its the lack of hustling or lack of taking shots on net, but sometimes like the hurricanes game, when you let 3 goals through the five hole, it gets a little ridiculous at some points. is it too late to take back bernie parent?

It's not that letting a goal in through five-hole is embarrassing or should never happen.

The Flyers have had very good offense for a very long time, and actually very good goaltending as well. Their defense is what kills them. Their defense is laughable, which is why you see their goalies get shit on. If you put any top 3 goalie in the Philadelphia net, I promise you'll see a very similar result to what's happening to them now.

Bobrovsky is an integral part of Columbus, Emery (when he got traded to Chicago) set an NHL record and won a cup with Chicago, and Bryzgalov is making Minnesota a very real threat. Yet, I didn't hear one good thing about any of them in Philadelphia because their fans are so painfully critical of their goalies. Though with the Bobrovsky, Emery, and Bryzgalov examples I just gave above, what do all of those teams have in common?

A solid defense.

Oh, and when Philadelphia picked up Pronger, they almost won a cup the same year. Then he got injured, and then they fell off. Hm, weird.

$20 says they go after Webber in the off season. Ever since Nashville matched the offer sheet we gave him (which they really can't afford) they have been stacking up on young d-men with enormous potential. They need offense, and Philly is loaded with young offensive Tallent. We can afford to sacrifice anyone not named Claude Giroux to get webber. We can also pretty safely trade away 1st round picks for the next few years because of all the young players we have.

Our offense is fucking scary. Mason is the best goalie we have had in a long time (maybe since Hextall), and if we pick up webber on D it's GG.

#23 Laptop for College? in Hardware
Erici would get a macbook but that probably would not work as well as a good laptop for the same price

probably???

Apple will slap a logo on a macbook powered by a core2duo and charge you more than an overpriced Razer/Alienware laptop with an i7.

#14 Laptop for College? in Hardware

You could EASILY find a beast laptop for college that would run tf2 just as good, if not better than your desktop. It shouldn't even be that hard to find it in your price range. 2 years ago I decided to look for a gaming laptop because I was tired of lugging my tower to lans all the time. I took my time and looked around and found this...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834214626

17.3" 120hz display
560m gtx
i7 CPU

Dropped an extra 80gig ssd in there for the OS and it is a beast. Paid like $1100 for it. It was supposed to be $2000 but it was technically "open box" because its original shipping box was damaged, and so were the 3D glasses it was supposed to come with, but that saved me around $900

Look for deals like that. Also, stay away from popular gaming laptop lines like Alienware or the Asus RoG, and especially the Razer ones. All decent, but over priced. Look into the Toshiba Qosmio line (Qosmio is their gaming line). I can tell you from first hand experience they are very good.

#7 Record Store Day 2014 in Off Topic

There used to be a bunch of awesome music stores in Philly, but they are all gone now. I used to make the rounds once a week and usually fill a backpack with awesome stuff. Spent a ton of money but built a pretty impressive collection. It's too bad all these shops are closing...
